First of all, I want to thank all the staff at the Chisos campground who were all clearly doing their best under difficult circumstances with senseless budget cuts. Every staff person I talked to was friendly and helpful, but there was no excuse for the unsanitary conditions with the porta potties. I get having to ration water given drought conditions, but not having any toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or water in the pump handwash stations was gross. The porta potties were not emptied often enough for the number of people and I had GI distress the day I left the campground even though I did my best to wash hands at my campsite with my drinking water stash. I don't think we want to honor the history of Big Bend by bringing back dysentery so I hope the sanitary conditions get improved, and I will write my senators and shame them for the budget cuts that brought on all this in the first place. If you are reading this as a prospective peak season visitor, bring your own toilet paper and have hand sanitizer on a keychain with you at all times.

Site is quite a walk from the vehicle and also up a rocky path. You would think it is secluded and quiet but other adjacent campsites are also very close. The next camper talked so loud inside their tent we could hear every word, and they kept it up until after midnight. Bring your earplugs! Restrooms are clean and the cool mountain air is wonderful.

The location of this campground is magical - nothing like waking up surrounded by the Chisos Mountains. Bathrooms are in very good condition, drinking water fountains are easily accessible, and several hiking trails start close to the campground. We would have stayed longer if there had been any vacancies - this place is popular!

Everyone kept light to a minimum to preserve the dark skies and even with a fairly full campground there was not much noise. Park hosts were friendly.

Beautiful setting amidst the peaks in Chisos Basin. Allows quick access to Lost Mine hike and Windows trail . Some camping spots are a far walk to the bathrooms which is a huge pain at night . can be very dark on a moonless light allowing for excellent star gazing !

The campground was at full capacity and yet it was very clean! I LOVED that the bathroom had lights and a heater in it. The temps were in the mid-thirties at night, so the heat was a gift! I felt like the tent campsite spaces were spaced out well enough for privacy too.

Breathtaking. The Chisos Basin campground is fantastically positioned to experience Big Bend. In the shadow of Casa Grande and under a blanket of stars, there are outstanding views around the clock. We were fortunate to be there near the full moon, but the moon didn’t rise until hours after sunset. That gave us plenty of time to view distant planets, galaxies, and more before some memorable views of the moon. Definitely a don’t miss if you’re in Big Bend.

Staying at the Chisos Basin Campground at Big Bend is amazing. The views alone are spectacular. I had a sick campsite, decently spaced from others, with amazing views. The campground has direct access to the Window Trail-head (a must-see hike in the mountains).

This is a great location for camping and is close to some amazing hiking opportunities like the Lost Mine and Window trails.

I don’t know how I missed it but the fact that there’s no showers needs to be very much more emphasized. Never in my wildest dreams what I thought of a major campground not having showers. After being out on the trails all day, not being able to take a shower, not being able to get into the lodge restaurant, I Just gave up and made the 2 hour drive to a hotel. The campground is a capacity, camping sites themselves are tiny, if you want peace and quiet this is not a place to go.
