Such a beautiful spot, with many of the great trails in the park originating right nearby.

This campground is such a beautiful place to stay! Our family of 5 enjoyed our site right in the heart of the Chisos mountains! Very glad we got to camp here. This site (#50) was pretty small. Our 8 person tent barely fit, but we made it work. We stayed 4 nights in November and the first night it rained all night!! Vibrant, Mexican jays out each morning were so beautiful! We brought charcoal for the grill, so we could roast marshmallows for smores each night. I enjoyed being close to the restroom which has a separate dishwashing station that is very convenient. Very short drive to the Visitor center and camp store to get ice, souvenirs, info from park rangers. Also just a couple minutes of driving to get to the Lost Mine Trail which is very nice! Get there before 8:30am to get a parking spot! The park hosts were friendly and very helpful! I definitely want to come back to this campground and stay another time!!

A simple lock box would be preferred over the cumbersome, invasive online system that barely works. Backed up by a phone number no one answers. The number of park rangers standing around suggests to the average mind this isn't a personnel shortage problem, but a cultural one so typical of .gov bureaucracy. The sites are almost too small for a single vehicle. It is a beautiful place. I've seen enough....

Big Bend has a lot to offer between the desert and mountain trails. The Chisos Basin campground was great, beautiful location, and convenience of the store nearby was also a plus.

This review is for the campsite 50 itself. The campsite was majority rock. It was very hard to set up our tent. Bending our stakes and we also noticed other stakes that someone had left behind were also bent. Other than this specific campsite number the camp ground itself is absolutely beautiful.

Staying at Chisos Basin Campground was awesome as the location and views are spectacular. It was nice to be centrally located within the park. The Lost Mine Trail was fantastic and one of the most popular favorites. Hiking up the Pinnacles, Emory Peak summit, South Rim, and Laguna Mesa in one day is challenging, so be in shape for a very rigorous hike, bring plenty of water, food, clothing, and a headlamp, just in case. Santa Elena and Boquillas Canyons were beautiful and it was fun to walk in the water up the Rio Grande. Mule Ears Spring was an interesting hike in the desert environment, also interesting are seeing the springs that provide water even in the extreme heat of the summer. The Nature Trail at the Villages is a shorter hike suitable for most anyone where you can see the Sierra del Carmen range of Mexico right in front the Chisos range of the US. There are so many interesting features about this park that make it a gem in our park system. Kudos to all the park rangers for the incredible amount of the work they do and the volunteers that allow us to share in the spectacular beauty of our National Parks. Thank you!

Campsite is clean, has drinking water access, and situates right across from the Window trail head. Bathroom is well kept and the dish cleaning room is fabulous! The only down side is the bathroom is right next to my campsite. The (women) bathroom door makes banging noise every time someone comes in and out. The Park could install some door cushion to mitigate that noise impact to maintain serenity consistently throughout the rest of the campground. My friend suggested me bringing earplugs so I so am glad I did. But it could be dangerous if wild animals came to my site at night and I could not hear it in order to take action while wearing earplugs. Rangers are super friendly. They greet campers and even offer to help take my trash bags so the I don't have to walk far to the dumper.

Chisos Basin was BEAUTIFUL. The campground was very well maintained and a short walk to The Window Trail. Would recommend this spot as a first-time-in-Big-Bend campsite over Rio Grande Village or any others as it is centrally located and allows for shorter drives in both directions. If in Chisos Basin for a short time, I would recommend the Emory Peak Trail as it has some of the greatest elevation change and the best views. Time permitting in the day, I would either do The Window Trail or just The Window View Trail for sunset. Definitely coming back.

The camp sites are spacious. Campers observe the quiet hours. The camp host, Amy, was welcoming but firm in her briefing about bear and other wildlife precautions. One can buy camp food basics at the store near the lodge. Lots of great trails into the adjacent mountains. Finally, it was simply beautiful!

The staff was super knowledgable and friendly. The park was easy to navigate, clean and kept to it's original beauty. We loved hiking Lost Mine Trail, Santa Elena Canyon Trail, Upper Buro Mesa Pour-off and Balancing Rock Trail. The star gazing at night was stunning.

Beautiful CG. Great prolixity to the hiking trails, etc. EPIC stargazing. However, as stated, a lot of the sites have serious slopes. I was in site 50, camper van, no levelers so tried using rocks but still didnt do the trick, ended up driving down to the flat parking area every night. Definitely bring your levelers!!!

We've not camped in Texas before, and while it was a long drive from Denver, being able to hike in 60 degree weather in early February for four straight days was delightful. Who knew there were beavers in the desert? (Yep, Rio Grande River beavers den in the river banks, not in stick lodges, but they are active in the Santa Elena canyon area.) Hiking the Window Trail and the Lost Mine Trail were both good - easy to follow trails and great views, especially on the Lost Mine summit. Take a lunch and enjoy a view of Mexico way off in the distance while you munch PB&Js.Most of the sites in Chisos Basin are a bit uneven because, after all, the campground is tucked into a ring of mountains - just gotta roll with it. But the bathrooms are clean (and have electricity for hair dryers), there are dish washing sinks (COLD water) and the little store sells postcards plus stamps and has a mail drop off box to get those cards on their way. Overall, a great week of camping!

Very clean camping, and crowded. Access to hiking trails nearby. Earplugs used at night to help me sleep and not listen to neighbors. Scenery is wonderful. Deer came right through my camp. News of mamma bear & 2 cubs off Window Trail, but I didn't spot them. Good time.

This park is awesome. The beauty of the desert landscape is amazing. The Chisos Basin campground is set up very well. However the road to the campground has switchbacks and is not suitable for trailer longer than about 20’’. The sites are small so no room for big rigs. Many sites are more suitable for tent camping. So if you have a tent, small trailer or smaller rv you will love it.

Stayed in site 50. Very poorly executed site. I walked the entire campground and there were some very good sites there so good execution can be and has been done. Please redo that site and bring it up to the level of the rest of the campground. Thank You.

Big Bend and specifically Chisos Basin is a magical place. The hiking trails are fantastic and the environment is so beautiful. My favorite trails were Window trail, Lost Mine, Balance Rock and Emory Peak. The parks team are super knowledgeable and helpful. I lived my 8 days in the park and I wish it would have been more. It fulfilled my wonder lust for hiking and outdoor fun. I will be back!

Incredible campground. Also, it's over 5K feet. So even in the summer it is quite nice once the sun goes down. The views are something you won't find in TX anywhere else. Definitely make this one of your camping spots when you go to Big Bend!
