(Memorial Day Weekend) It's West Texas... in the summer. Heat exhaustion will creep on you fast so know the signs & stay hydrated (recommend 1.5gal a day). Don't recommend doing any trails around the afternoon. Start early when its cooler 6am - 10am or anything after 6pm. Site 049 where we camped is literally right next to the Window Trailhead so if you don't like much foot traffic I'd choose another site but we did get to see Big Bend's staff & volunteers rescue visitors. Can't beat the sunset view on this site & a clean restroom right across. Black bear was regularly spotted near the water treatment facility and Elf owls, Scott's Oriole, Varied Bunting, Canyon Towhee, & Mexican Jay's were common around the camp site. Went looking for the Colima Warbler and found it on the intersection of Colima Trail and Laguna Meadow. Chisos Basin is projected to close some time in the fall so I would double check with staff before making any plans.

Perfect campground in center on the park. It is little though, rustic, and campsites looked really close together at the front of the campground. Our campsite (#49) felt perfect as it was a little more secluded from the more crowded front, across from bathrooms, and right next to The Window Trailhead (strongly recommend) plus the view was amazing!!

My campsite didn't have a level parking spot for car camping. The camp host saw my challenge and invited me to move to a site that was administratively closed so that I would be more comfortable. Unexpected kindness, much appreciated.

This is a very good location that is located directly next to the Window Trail access and across from the bathrooms/dishwashing station. The bathrooms being so close is nice, but you do get people at night driving down to use them and the lights can be a little distracting. You can easily see the window from the camp and there's some boulders and trees providing lovely shade and shelter throughout the day. We didn't have any strong winds while we were there, but I imagine the rocks and trees would help cut down on some of the wind.

Absolutely beautiful campsite! The only thing to note is that it is directly across from the restrooms, so keep this in mind if the noise/activity would bother you.

Beautiful campground, the site is right next to Window trail. The coolest (temp) campground in the park, maybe 10-15 cooler. Comfortable walk to Lodge, VC, cafe (with free wifi) and addt trails. No showers and they request you conserve water so plan accordingly, also recommend gassing your vehicle as you'll use a bit on the up and downs. Bring levelers. Very worthwhile campground.

Its rite a cross the restroom. It does not have a tent a pad. It was hard rock all round the pad.

Came out to Chisos Basin to get away from the heat of central Texas in August. Yes, you read that correctly. Windy nights and cool morning hikes, with uncrowded trails. Great weekend getaway.

Very clean campsite and bathrooms

Gorgeous place overall. If you can reserve a site with a sunshade, that's worth doing. Park staff very 'present' but nice enough. Not the most bicycle-easy place. It's a very steep climb to the visitor center and a brake-burning decent back to camp. Still.... paradise.

Great campsite. The camp hosts were wonderful. Bathrooms were clean, everything was quiet.

We had, in my opinion, the best camping spot in Chisos Basin. We had a great view of The Window trail and a great view of Casa Grande. Very near the restroom, which is great if you have to get up late night/early morning after.
It was super close to the start of the South rim trail(which was exhausting but amazing) and the Lost mine trail, which gives you a gorgeous view at the end!
I’ve been to the part 2 other times but this, all around, was the best experience yet.

Beautiful desert park. Good campsites for car camping. Many do not have shade and can get quite hot during the day.
