Bathrooms were open our first night, then closed due to drought, and spring break but they threw out some Port-a-potties that they kept up with. Such a beautiful spot and very quiet relaxing time

There is absolutely nothing that compares to the stars in Big Bend. The sunrise inside of Chisos Basin is also spectacular!

Chisos Basin is a wonderful place and the campground is fine as a starting point for hiking. I loved it and will come back.

Park is stunning. Do not bring your dog if you are in the no-generator area. Rangers watching you don’t leave dog unattended

Campground sites are not very flat. Be careful when selecting your space. many spaces have you parking in the road.
Great location to get in some terrific hikes!
We had Verizon LTE at our camping spot and also had a strong signal at Chisos Visitor Center.

We had a wonderful time hiking, driving around and hot spring. we spent one week in big bend national park and there’s more things to do. We really enjoyed one night backpack hiking to Emory peak and south rim .

We just LOVE Big Bend and have been there several times and will continue to go there. BUT ...I want to warn you there is a very rude, combative, argumentized lady Host at Chisos Basin Campground . She picks a battle with camp goers over the littlest things and blows them way out of proportion. One of which was clearly her mistake on the reserve numbering of our campsite and another simply because we moved into our site too early before check in time, when the day before she let us do the same thing and it was okay. I have been here 5 times and have always known that the check-out and check-in times, but if the site is clean and the previous owners left early and say go ahead and move in , and you don't want to waste half of your day to pull out of a site or pull into a site. This you don't have to go hiking in the middle of the hot afternoon day! There should be and can be an exception as most previous Hosts did not make such a giant issue out of it and basically ruin my day. We are very conscientious, recycle-minded campers and pick up after ourselves and even pack our trash back home with us. I personally think she just may need a break from dealing with campers and her Husband is really a sweet, laid back nice Host. (It's almost a Jackal and Hyde situation or good cop bad cop if thing)
Also at Panther Junction there are two of the rudest Rangers I have ever seen in this otherwise wonderful Park and the white bearded man running the Panther Junction gas station couldn't be more unfriendly . One snapped at my wife and said , "Go to the other Ranger for help getting a windshield tag " Then when she went to the other ranger ,he snapped , " Why didn't you get one at the entrance???" Wife said pleasantly , "Well it was unmanned." Gee ! Welcome to Park !!!
The nicest person working in the park that I met was the young Lady Ranger at the Chisos Basin information center and the lady running the Castolon convenience store.

Rangers on site were very pleasant, and knowledgeable! Gave us plenty of hiking tips and labeled trails on maps for us. The campsite was beautiful, bathroom well kept and stocked. everyone around us was so kind and happy as well. Can’t wait to be back!

The campsite host was very friendly. He came by to make sure we were good to go throughout our stay. Bathrooms are clean and potable water faucets are throughout the campsite.

We camped during end of May and it was pretty windy at night so make sure to bring some good stakes/tie downs. It’s about 20 degrees cooler at Chisos Basin campsite vs down the river so that’s a good relief during nights. It was at least 100 down by the river and only around mid-80 when we got back to campsite and got down to mid-60s at night.
