This was my second time staying at the Chisos Basin Campground. The location is perfect to access some of the most scenic trails in the park. The campsites vary in size and privacy. Everyone is very considerate though and it gets quiet early and there is rarely an issue with any noise.

The Chisos Basin was one of the coolest places I have camped in my lifetime! Absolutely loved the experience and made it easy to hike the Lost Mine trail, Window Peak trail, Emory Peak, and the South Rim Trail. Also a great home base for any activities towards the western and eastern areas of the park.

A beautiful campsite, set and setting. Right in the area of the park you want to be. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Site 30 is an excellent spot. Somewhat secluded and convenient to both restrooms and hiking trails

Chisos Basin facilities have been carefully designed to put most tourist services in a compact area. The rangers that I met in the visitor center were knowledgeable and helpful. The trails have been built and maintained to make walking relatively safe and easy. The only problem was that the main parking lot fills quickly and the secondary lot is hidden.

This is my 3rd time camping at BB and my experience was drastically different this time. The park's choice to only allow one campsite to be booked per recreation.gov account severely limited our group's ability to camp together over spring break because one person could not book 2 sites. This left us with two sites at Rio Grande Village that were far apart and one in CB, and we were lucky to even get that. Overbearing camp hosts made the experience even less enjoyable when our group was chastised for having more than two cars at one campsite because one group drove over to share a meal with us and then again while we were loading/unloading. Our group was quiet and respectful of all our neighbors. I don't think an extra car parked in the site's assigned parking space or an extra tent at each site affected our neighbors' experience. No - the group campsite was not available. I checked at least 6 months in advance. The park also needs to do a better job with traffic control at Chisos Basin. First they turned us away when I clearly stated that we had a campsite reservation in the basin. We had to wait for hours past our reservation time to get into the basin due to the line of day visitors. Then, they let more cars into the park than there are parking spaces which lead to a parking nightmare just trying to drive from our CB campsite to the lodge. Every ranger or host I interacted with was unfriendly. We had to completely change our hiking itinerary due to the time it took to get into the park and the parking situation. By far the worst experience I have had at any park ever! My recommendation - don't visit BB during spring break - it is not relaxing!

This is a great campsite (probably the best) and felt secluded from the other sites which are close by. We had 3 tents in this site. One tent was placed at the bottom of the site near the woods (there is a incline down to the bottom site). Although no shelter, there are plenty of shade from trees. We were we were in the woods. We were able to see deer. Camp ranger also showed us photos of bears in this site coming to eat the berries off the trees.

Our campsite was pretty secluded (loop2, site 30), with the parking pad for our truck camper being about five steps above the rest of the site. The campsite was very level, had a large shade tree, and ample room for our Clam (9x9 screen room tent), plus another tent or two. Two drawbacks for the site were the power lines right over the parking pad and the trail that went rigt next to the parking pad. Still, it was probably one of the best sites. Not all sites have shade and some had little to no privacy. Big Bend was gorgeous and worth the long drive to get there. Next time we’ll venture further into the park to go see the Rio Grande. The rangers at the campground and at the visitor center were friendly and informative. One other note for those with an RV/camper - the only way we could put water in our fresh water tank was via the hose at the dump station that does not have a nozzle you can screw your freshwater hose onto. I had to hold the nozzle in the hose as best I could (wasting precious water) to fill up.

The Chisos camping ground was excellent and very nice. I had a great spot for car-camping for three days. Window trailhead is in the Chisos camping ground, so it was very convenient for us. Santa Elena canyon is a must see. And the road going to hot springs in Rio Grande Village was unpaved but it was a nice spot to visit if you don't mind all the dust you get from driving. Or you can hike to the hot springs. Overall we had a great time at the Big Bend NP.

#30 is a really lovely campsite in the best Big Bend campground. Its a bit recessed and therefore more private than many of the other sites. Perfect setup for tent camping. We also loved using the provided charcoal grill. Bathrooms were clean and close. The location of Chisos campground is excellent. Very convenient to get to popular hikes like Window, Lost Mine, Laguna Meadows/South Rim. Centrally located for easy trips to RGV and Santa Elena.

Three different sightings of black bears including mama and 3 cubs that came right thru my campsite (30) and also on Emory Trail (about 1 mile up) and on the west side of the South Rim Trail near the South Rim 3 Campsite. The Rio Grande is dried up at this time through the park including Santa Elena canyon but that allows walking rite up the river bed thru the canyon.

Great campsite at Chisos - nicely spaced out sites and clean facilities. Good to be able to walk to window trail from campsite. Also many campsites had shade.

Perfect location. However, the camp sites are stacked close together. If you have an RV, you might have trouble parking it depending on which site you reserve.

Had a great time at the Chisos Basin campsite. You are surround by a great vista of the mountains. The campsite itself has a shared bathroom on site with running water. I stayed here in February and the weather was great with temperatures ranging from about 50 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
