Our visit was short and sweet. We spent one night and left in the dark to climb the nearby trail to see the amazing sunrise. All good.

Great site good views had a bear come in right behind our camp. Campsites / neighbors are pretty close but most of the sites in the basin are close

Had a great time in Chisos basin campground. Stargazing at night is the most wonderful thing from the campground. I recalled I could not see the same level of sighting from the other campsites in the park.

April at Chisos is a fantastic time to visit. Crisp mornings with hot afternoons allow for great hiking at any altitude. We were on the first row (site 15) and it was very windy each evening that battered us pretty good, but we also have a very tall tent.

Great campground and facilities. Very few sites are level, so plan ahead. As with most popular NP campgrounds, competition for reservations are getting tougher.

RV campers: yes, if you are longer than 20ft you wont be able to camp here. Not because of the winding road to get to Chisos, but rather because you wont fit in a site. If you do have a small travel trailer or Class B, there are only 3-4 sites that you would be able to *enjoyably* camp in. I say enjoyably meaning: will completely fit and will have slightest sense of privacy. Site 15 is hands down the best site for RVs. Site 9 will also work. There are some sites that are so close to its neighbor, almost like a shared driveway. There are also sites that are merely designated spots on the campground road. No slab for backing in etc. You really dont want this. We unfortunately saw a trailer that booked one of these sites and their slide out was in the middle of the road. Bottom line: do your research. Look at Google maps, make sure you have eyes on the site you are booking, because they vary wildly at Chisos Basin.***Very important: the water spigots (even at the dump station/water fill) will not accommodate a standard hose attachment. I believe this is intentional to restrict water usage - water is limited to 5 gallons per person per day. You must have a way of pumping water into your rig from Jerry cans/bucket etc. Thankfully we have a nautilus system, so this was a non-issue for us.

Wonderful experience here. Quite, central location in the park. No big rigs for sure, not only because of the road coming in but the campground sites for trailers. We had a 20 ft travel trailer and that was the max size for the campground. Our site was perfect for it but tight to back into. Close to a lot of hiking trails. We were in the generator use area, but no one was using. Mostly solar panels being used which work well in this area, do to sunshine and no shade.

On this trip, I made use of the Chisos Basin campground. It is well maintained and signs are easy to follow to find your site. This campground is very popular as it sits in the center of the park and near to popular trailheads. The restrooms are good and there are some water spigots throughout the grounds. Enjoy your stay

The campsite & bathrooms were very clean, and the basin is a great place to camp for hiking. We have camping in the basin for many years with good results. My only complaint was that we could hear lots of noise from people at the group camping area. The first night it sounded like they were partying between midnight & 2 am. This has never happened before in the decades that we have been camping here.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
