Beautiful place to camp. The campsites are very rocky for the most part, even in the spaces for tents. Easy access to water bathrooms and trash. The location in the park is wonderful, you’re in the prettiest place very close to the prettiest hikes

No showers at the Basin. Closest shower is at Rio Grande Village camp ground (20+miles) and cost $2.00 per 5 min.

The check in is seamless. Just reserve your site on reserve.giv and show up. Yes, it’s that simple. No waiting in line to check in and they are super friendly at camp ground.

Stunning scenery! Seriously, can't overstate how beautiful it was here! You can see the moon and stars so clearly, and it is so peaceful at night.

We were pleasantly surprised that, even though the park is very remote, we had excellent cell reception in our campground. Speaking of remote, it really is in the middle of nowhere! So fill up on gas more often than you think you need to, and always have plenty of water with you!

A bit windy and rained one morning, but not problematic. No shade or rain cover at our site, but we didn't need it in mid-October. Campsite was small but perfectly sized for our 6-person tent. Site was pretty level, but very rocky, so we were glad we had an air mattress. Bring a hammer for putting in tent stakes, and definitely recommend metal stakes! (There were several plastic stakes broken off in the ground at our site.) Picnic table was not level at all, but we were able to raise up a corner with a rock to make it usable. Site felt somewhat secluded but still near others, which was perfect for us.

Bathrooms were nearby and very clean. Was expecting vault toilets but was pleasantly surprised by flush toilets, regular sinks and mirrors. Made it easy to freshen up despite there being no showers. Loved having the designated dishwashing room attached to bathrooms - made cleanup after meals easy.

We heard that bears are common here, but we didn't see any. We still followed all recommended wildlife precautions, though. The only wildlife we saw were mule deer and foxes on our drive into the park at night, and a tarantula in our site that didn't bother us at all.

Rangers and park staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful.

Chisos Basin Trail was nice. Santa Elena Canyon Trail was amazing! (But prepare to probably get your feet wet.) Loved this park, and would love to come back some day!

There are still visitors who leave trash, empty water bottles, lunchable, etc. on the trail as if there is trash service to pick up after them. There’s only so much one can help pick up after. Detracts from a wonderful experience.
