Chisos Basin Campground is an amazing campground to use as a base to discover the mountains of Big Bend NP. There are food lockers at each campsite which is very handy so we don't have to keep toting food back and forth. Campsite 7 was good if you like to be close to the bathroom and the dishwashing station (we liked it). The view is a bit "blocked" by the other campsites meaning you don't have an insta type of photos as your photos will always have cars or structures in it. However you will still have an amazing view. Site 7 also has a picnic structure so that really helps with shade, but can also block the stargazing a bit. There was also the camp hosts and they were very helpful. I think her name was Kim (sorry, I forgot!). Overall a great site and a great campground and the experience was just amazing.

We pitched a tent at site #7. It has a fantastic view, and the location near drinking water, bathrooms, and dishwashing station was perfect. The awesome Window Trail was close by as well.

Took a seven year old, five year old and one year old with my wife and we had a great time. It was hot but not unbearable. The fossil exhibit was great for the kids. In the heat of the day, drive the park as there are over 130 miles of paved roads to explore with several pull offs along the way. We went to Balmorhea state park during this trip which was three hours away and worth every minute. Balmorhea is a natural spring turned into a pool so nice to cool off after a few hot days at Big Bend. Scarce shower facilities on site so be prepared to pay for one at the RGV store, baby wipe or sponge bath. Glad we got to go before construction began on the new lodge. Chisos basin was by far the coolest temps and best views of all the campgrounds in the park!

Beautiful site.

The campsites are very small and right on top of each other. They are also not level at all. The campground is best for tent camping IMO and maybe that's already known. With that said, it's set in a beautiful setting.

We camped in site 7 which had Casa Grande on one side and the Chisos mountains encircling you. The views were amazing. Site 7 is a pull through with lots of room. Its not at all level, came up on 3 blocks on the passenger rear and 4 in the front. Its a generator free campground so extremely peaceful. Bathrooms were clean and warm. Our 25ft LTV had no trouble navigating the roads or parking at the visitor center, backed in. Tried to view the sunset through the window view, but the sun was too far south, but Im sure thats spectacular. You can hike the Windows trail from the campground and save well over a mile. Would definitely stay again.

I really only have one complaint, which was unfortunately a big enough problem that it kinda ruined the whole experience for us. This campsite was really close to the water alarm that went off anytime anyone in the entire campsite turned on the water. The alarm basically was going off sporadically the entire time and it was SO annoying. Glad we spent most of our time away from campsite and that I brought my noise canceling earbuds. We also stayed at campsite 3 our first night and had no problems with the alarm when on that site. I really hope they eliminate the water alarm because it really bothered us during our stay.

Campground and restrooms were clean. Be careful on the back country trails. High clearance 4x4 vehicle is truly necessary. Since campfires are not allowed, we brought a portable propane heater since it was pretty chilly, and we were tent camping.

Its an alright campground. Beautiful setting for sure. The problem is there are SO many rules. No campfires, no generators, no lights after dark and theyll actually hassle you about it. The campsite hosts Im sure are just doing their job (and are actually very nice once you get to know them) but man if I wanted to be hassled about rules Id go to my parents house. If youre a legit camper and want peace and quiet, Id go elsewhere. Also site 007 is awful. Theres a water drain next to it that beeps loudly whenever anyone uses the bathroom or sink

Beautiful location. The best hikes start from here. The lodge restaurant serves surprisingly gourmet food along with delicious hamburgers. Many campsites are unlevel due to the hillside location so pay attention to the campsite description. Star gazing at its best here.

Beautiful night sky in the winter when it was clear, the dark outline of the mountains against the blanket of stars, absolutely beautiful! On site staff very nice & helpful.

Chisos Basin is the jewel of Big Bend. The bathrooms had some updates made to them prior to our stay, however, they could use a total refresh instead of just the small repairs.

Amazing view both from within the campground and the hill above. Peaceful. The bathrooms are kept dark in the evenings, which allowed us to capture stunning photos of the stars. Definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling near the area. Remember to gas up at Panther Junction!

Easily the best place to camp in Big Bend. We camped in June and originally had reservations at Rio Grande Campground until a kind neighbor, camping near us in the Guadalupe Mountains explained that Rio Grande had been close to 118 F the day before. Chisos Basin can run about 15 to 20 degrees cooler. This info was a life saver as we visited what would have been our RG campground and while the area is pretty, it is also quite deserted and very hot! Chisos Basin is a beautiful campground close to a few major hiking spots including Lost Mine, Window View, and the South Rim. We did the first two of these and will take the latter another time. A lot of wildlife here, including birds and bears. There are good size food lockers at each site, and you can also keep food and water in your truck/car (ranger approved this). There is easy access to potable water and toilets but no showers. There is a lodge nearby that was serving take-out food, as well as a store and visitors center.

Nice location close to facilities, the windows trailhead, a quick drive to lost mine and several of the more top rated hikes by the Chisos basin lodge, and who could forget the short drive to the best sunset at the park? Windows view trail!Mornings in the Chisos basin are really quite something as well, very relaxing and enjoyable location. I wouldnt hesitate to book here again.

Stayed two nights at different sites, this review is for site #7. Soil was not too compacted for pitching a tent. I enjoy being close to bathrooms and potable water (as opposed to further away with more privacy) so #7 was excellent. Adjacent to the bathrooms and dishwashing room, and a potable water spigot at the mouth of the driveway, which itself was long enough to fit three cars. I have Google Fi and had consistent service in the campground.
