Good camping experience. A few things to know beforehand, the campsites are pretty close to each other and the tent pad is about 75% gravel so heavy duty tent stakes are necessary

Great place to visit. Amazing scenery. Clean campgrounds. Made a complain on a campground park worker. Coming really early in the morning and accusing my son that he was washing dishes and left debris in the bathroom sink. Never let me talk just accused me and said this is just a fair warning. Son never left debris in sink. Many others came in there and did the same but decided he wanted to be a hero in front of his lady partner. Slim native american or hispanic guy with glasses.

Amazing scenery, incredible star gazing. And we saw 3 different bears while out in the basin away from the campground. A lot of fun.

Stayed 3 nights at Chicos Basin. Couldnt ask for a more beautiful place. Great location for the top hikes. Sites are small. Bathrooms clean and fresh water tasted great. Had pretty good cell service with Verizon. Did get attacked by bugs for about an hour prior to sunset. Bring bug spray!!

Overall good experience. We camped in A Loop, and all was fine until it was time to leave. We have a 20 ft. trailer and wanted to use the dump station in front of us. Lo and Behold, the station was located on the right side of the loop, which runs counterclockwise.Since all dump ports on recreational vehicles are located on the "left side" of the vehicles, this placed us in a quandary, as turning around within the loop was impossibleTo solve the issue, we had to leave the loop, find a place to turn around, then re-enter the loop going clockwise (against the signs). We highly recommend that the Forest Service "re-sign" the loop to run Clockwise so that future campers have a convenient and legal way to access the dump facilities.Thank you!

We were in Big Bend NP for 3 days. I planned the trip so we would spend one night/day at each campground location and see things in that area. Chisos Basin was the most intense to get to with the steep narrow windy roads to get there and get out. I was pulling a small 14 ft pop-up camper with my Subaru Outback. I had no trouble in maneuvering the roads but would encourage people to heed the 25 ft length limit for the road. If camping in Chisos Basin pay attention to the description of the site you pick. Some sites are not suitable for a RV/trailer and others are great. The scenery in this location is beautiful and there are many hikes to pick from.

Site 51 is close to the Window Trailhead. We did three hikes during our stay and the Window was my favorite! We ate dinner at the Lodge restaurant. It was fabulous and had some vegetarian-friendly options. We were back-of-truck camping and our site didn't have a pull-in area. We basically camped on the side of the road - it would have been nice to know which sites have pull-in areas for vehicles but we were just happy to get a site and were thrilled to be at Big Bend! We're already looking forward to our next trip there.

We greatly enjoyed Site 5 and hope to stay there again. I commend the workers who were upgrading the bathroom across from the site. They were very courteous and hardworking!

Incredible. We were lucky, The night sky was full of stars. No light pollution in Big Bend
This is a spectacular location surrounded by mountains. I did not believe it would be possible to have cell coverage, but I did have spotty Verizon coverage within most of the basin area. The sites are generally not very level, but the one I had was passable. The reason I give it five stars is the beauty of the surroundings and the helpfulness of the camp hosts. I inadvertently left a dog tie, and when I returned a day later, they were very helpful to get it back for me. Thank you!
I recommend heartily Chisos Basin and its Campground. It is a location that is so unlike the rest of the desert park. Stunning views even from the campground site, and even moreso if you hike the Window Trail to the end (downhill outbound, so prepare for the return hike) and the Lone Mine Trail (fairly significant uphill outbound, so easier return). Great views. Amazing at how well the trails have been built and maintained! Kudos to the crews who maintain them. Campground was quiet except for one barking dog who only disturbed the peace for a short time; the owner apparently had good rapport and control. Happy to return if opportunity presents!
No showers, rather crowded, and no effort to educate campers that this is a dark sky destination. My neighbour's camp, just metres away, looked like an airport runway, or a prison yard!
Big Bend and the Chisos Basin was beautiful. The rangers were very helpful and friendly. We had an amazing time! Pictures can not do justice to this park. We have brought home wonderful memories and we are ready to return soon.
We LOVED staying at Chisos Basin!!! The scenery is incredible and it's a little cooler than the lower elevations. Do your best to find a site with a covered pavillion, because the sun is intense. (We were in #5 and it had one, though we lost shade later in the day so we were happy to have brought a tarp to hang from the stucture for more shade.) No showers but we made do, and if you drive into Terlingua for a canoe trip, etc, there's an RV park with clean showers. Like others have said, there's basically zero privacy here, but everyone was friendly and just kinda makes it work. Can't wait to go back!
Drive into basin not as hard as the website makes it seem. Check recreation.gov frequently to see if spaces open up. Gorgeous mornings and evenings, plus could hike right out to South Rim and Windows. Also stopped at Cottonwood, would have like to stay a night there but fully booked for many months.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
