This is one of my favorite places in the world. Assateague is not for the feint of heart, though. Be smart about the horses and keep your food put away. We view Assateague camping as a survival exercise. If you want luxury, go somewhere else.

Although the location is incredible and the wildlife, trails, and visitor center are excellent, the poor campground bathroom facilities put a hamper on our experience. The bathroom pit toilet doors are heavy and dont work properly, making them hard for kids to open and nearly impossible to close or lock. The drinking water fountain did not work. Showers are unheated, which is prominently stated on the website, though one of the two showerheads leaked continuously while we were there. There are no facilities (sinks or drains) available for doing dishes. A little work on these facilities would go a long way!

Overall we enjoyed a wonderful time on the Island. We had a spacious campsite except that we shared it with a dumpster. The upside to that was that we met many of our fellow campers. The ponies were plentiful and many times moved through our campsite quietly. They never bothered with any of our equipment or threatened us, contrary to all the signage and handouts. The facilities were well maintained and the camp hosts were great. The other park service staff were at times standoffish. I found this disappointing. Especially during the laidback off season. They have to remember that they are stewards of the land but also ambassadors to the paying public.

Beach, rideable surf, that's all you need to know. Watch out for the horses if you plan on cooking outside.

Nice clean beach, plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The only drawback was the long wait to get into the park during the day, 30 minutes average.

This place is magical . It’s so nice every morning looking at the ocean from your front window. Seeing all the horse’s and the baby horse laying right by our camper. I felt truly blessed. I can’t wait to go next year again.

We experienced both A and C Loop. A beautiful experience, Both had their own unique experience. Very disappointed that trails were closed due to storm damage, so we will have to go back. The only negative was a lot of traffic on the C loop. We went late in the fall, cant even imagine how busy it must be during season

Our campsite was right next to a trash can so many people were walking around our RV. Also, gnats that were in the trash completely overtook our site. We had to leave and sleep in a hotel. We were killing gnats for HOURS trying to make it liveable. I don't think they should have trash so close to camp sites.

We did tent camping on loop 2 in Assateague National Park. Very close to the dumpster, but it was difficult to get reservations, so any spot is a good spot. There was a west wind, so the dumpster odor did not present a problem as we were set up on the west side of the street, not ocean side. It was a beautifull sunset and sunrise. Head to the bayside for sunsets and you won't be disapointed. Tent camping among all those RVs is not the quietest time you'll have, but quiet time was observed by all so not issue there. I would still recommend the area reserved for tents if you are not doing an RV. A lovely, well maintained park. Check in was easy and staff very friendly.

Beautiful area in the dunes, listening to the waves, ponies walked through the area. Its boondocking but there is a nearby bump station.

The National Seashore Campground is very primitive. No water or electrical hook-ups. Cold showers and outhouse style bathrooms. If thats the kind of camping you like, go for it.It would have been nice to get a weather warning from the rangers for the tropical storm that hit on the second night of our 5 night stay. Internet connection is not very good, so keeping on top of weather forecasts is almost inpossible. Had we known it would be so bad, we would have closed up the camper, taken down the canopies and gone to a motel for the night. As it was, a lot of our stuff was ruined, and we had to pack up the camper and everything in heavy wind and rain. Camping was done!
