Its a great spot that I will continue to visit over the years. Thank you to all the federal workers that help make it happen!

We are locals and love camping at Assateague. The campsites are perfect and the check in process is smooth. Could not ask for a better place to camp!

We always enjoy our camping trips at Assateague National Park. We just wish people would clean up after their dogs on the beach. They must think just because there's horse manure there, they can leave their dog's poo there too.

Assateague is a great camping experience. We rode bikes to the Visitor Center, walked the beach and enjoyed being the sun. The 3 days went by very quickly! Rangers and camp hosts were friendly helpful and efficient! It's a great place to see wild horses and birds!

Great spot, its mostly the other campers that make it or break it. We had great neighbors this time but there where a couple people on close by sites that had construction generators that where way too loud ! Just letting them run all day up too the last minute ( 10pm ). I felt bad for the people next to them.... quiet family campers in tents. The people with the annoying generators had stretched them out to be farther away from their own trailer only to be closer their neighbors tents.
The Host / rangers should have taken of this without the campers having to complain. This is common I would imagine so maybe the Assateague management will read this and adjust.

I have never, ever had a bad experience when visiting/camping at Assateague! The ranger station/check-in staff have always been helpful and informative. The beauty and peacefulness of the park are amazing. You cannot have a greater experience then visiting this beautiful park. The wild ponies are beautiful! Such a natural wonder!

I have a Ragdoll who travels with me & this is one of his favourite sites. We tried camping bayside but the pony patrol girls with their little golf carts & noisey water bottles traumatized him every time they saw ponies in our campsite. He broke out of his harness & hid in the bushes till they were gone...finally returning to my camper at 10pm. Poor little fella. I was afraid I'd lost him. I've been camping here for 40 years, this new crew is scarey & aggressive. Oceanside is much safer & quieter if you have pets :( I've been bringing Bodacious Ragdz here since he was 3 months old, never had any trouble, except for last Summer. He loves the campground & the OSV ! We have horses here so they're not an issue.

I have always wanted to camp on the beach and the experience was truly unique. Definitely pay attention to the camp site location -- we were several hundred feet back from the dunes, not directly on the beach (but a two minute walk through the campground to the beach). The biggest drawback to this location was BUGS. They were not bad during the day, but we went onto the beach in the evening just before sundown. When we came off the beach to go back to the campsite, we each got 20-30 mosquito bites. DEET spray took care of it but that short walk was brutal. That aside, it was so cool to see the ponies on the beach. We also saw dolphins, crabs, and horseshoe crabs. In this time of COVID-19, it was also nice that the showers were open air rather than enclosed in a building. I brought a portable shower but ended up feeling comfortable enough to use the campsite showers because there was good ventilation. Note that you have to book pretty far in advance to get a choice of spot and length of stay. I was able to book ONE night about a month in advance, but I'm sure I was really lucky. I was going to grab a second spot for a friend and it was gone before I checked out with the first spot. I checked back several times and never had another site come available. Other campers told us they booked in January for a July stay. Because our stay was short we only went on the beach, so I cannot comment on the rest of the park. We were there Monday-Tuesday in July, and it was not crowded. There was no lifeguard on the campground beach. When we checked in, we got junior ranger books for my kids, which had good information about the island (normally you get these at the visitor center, but it's closed due to COVID-19). Definitely a fun and unique experience!
