This was the absolutely best camping experience I've ever had. The sites are great but it was the ocean and the horses that made this trip magical. The sound of the ocean, the incredible sunrises over the ocean and sunsets over the bay, and ponies visiting our site was just perfect.

Great campground just on the other side of the dunes. Easy sites to back in to, and the slabs are level. The area was full but didnt seem crowded. The ranger staff was very helpful, but as others have said the holder of the national park pass always needs to be in the car when returning to camp, even if you have a camping pass in the car. We have not had that experience at other NP campgrounds. Close to ocean city with some great restaurants. And there is a brewery fairly close. We were camping during the eclipse so headed to Chincoteague end to watch the NASA rockets launch. It was less than an hour ride. We loved watching the horses from a safe distance, and we saw many every day. If you are in a tent make sure to secure your food. We did see the horses several times come through and invade campsites that had left food out. Other wildlife sightings included bald eagles, deer, many types of ducks and sea birds including plovers. It was a short but spectacular trip. We will be back

Not a good site for tent camping

A magical experience. The Oceanside campsite was beautiful nestled in the sand dunes, and the bayside campsite had wild horses roaming free.

Life of the Forest and life of the Marsh were good walks. Wish there had been less wind.

This was an amazing location. Rustic, wild and steps away from a beautiful shoreline. The hosts were across the road from my site. They were friendly and helpful. You definitely want to take a bicycle and some walking shoes if you want to get the most out of this location. My RV is self-contained, so I didn't use the facilities. I highly recommend this location and will return again ASAP.

We had a wonderfully warm weekend in November! Loved that the camp sites include bathrooms -- a perk for first time campers like myself. The horses made their presence known at night, which was a little unnerving -- but overall they made their way through the grounds. We are excited to come back in April!

My kids and I had a great experience. People in the admin office were really nice. The camp site had good space and bathrooms were clean.

Great day of kiteboarding the bay side, and camping on the ocean side. Wind was strong enough for some solid kiting sessions, and kept the mosquitoes at bay.

The campsite was well maintained and had several places where I could set up my tent and the site was basically right on the beach. The horses roped right into my campsite on a daily basis which made it a fantastic experience. Note that the files can be a bit much so some sort of bug enclosure would be a good thing. If you're camping, make sure you bring a tarp or some other form of sun shelter. We brought bikes and rode around in the evening. Not a lot of places to go, but it was nice. Definitely plan on going back again next year.

Really enjoyed our long weekend on Assateague. Walks on the beach and even saw dolphins. Campground was well kept. I know it would probably be too expensive but it would be great to have solar powered electricity for the campsites.
