Beautiful campsite right on the beach. Weve been doing this trip for almost 20 years with the same group of friends and its a tradition we adore. Theres something different, the conditions, the shifting of the dunes and what time the ponies come to visit

The oceanfront campsite are great! The wind keeps the biting insects down but bug spray is a must! Keep food locked up to keep the horses safe! The amount of wildlife on the barrier island is incredible!
Some Coverage

It was wonderfull ..we got lucky and there was wind so no flies. It would have been nice to have warm showers as at least an option I would pay for it even. Get some solar Pannels up in there and let the people have at least a Lukewarm shower ...other than that I was magic.

Great beach stay. Come prepared to fight off some insects, but still 100 percent worth it.

Another wonderful vacation at Assateague this year. The weather and campsite were perfect! Can't wait until next year!

We brought our family (small children & infant) as well as our dog. We were able to conveniently get from the parking area to our campsite, directly on the beach, nestled among the dunes. Our location made it feel like we had a private strip of prime beach real estate exclusively to ourselves. The beach was clean and picturesque, the beach facilities were conveniently located less than 400m away. We experienced minimal bugs or pests of any kind really. The only unexpected element was how forward the wild ponys were. You really do need to keep your food stored in the provided hard shelters under the picnic tables! We were easily able to get them to leave with some shooing and spritzing with water from water bottles. All in all we will definitely take our family back to this location.

The group site was perfect for our party of two households. The bathrooms and changing rooms were much cleaner than I was expecting, though to be fair we also were the only party on the group area for the first two days. One of the perks of this area I guess? There was a LOT of space on each site. It was like having a private beach! We were (ahem) "lucky" enough to have a pair of horses come wandering through as we were prepping dinner one night. The ONLY thing we had an issue with was a group of boy scouts who moved in to the site next to ours on the third day. They arrived late and basically set up an archaeological dig with spotlights and a lot of activity late into the evening. We woke the next day to find that a few of them pitched their tents in what was clearly our area. There was so much we loved about our stay. Watching the sun rise over the Atlantic is the perfect way to start the day, then watching the sun set behind the bay is a great way to end it. The hiking on the Maryland side is perfect for all ages; Life of the Dunes was my favorite. The highlight of the trip for me though was renting a kayak from Assateague Outfitters and paddling around Sinepuxent Bay for almost 4 hours. So many awesome little channels and islands to explore! This was our second trip to the island, and we've already started planning our third. It very well may become an annual tradition!

Love coming here. There is nothing like camping at the beach. The wild horses will get to any food left out, so we had to double check everything was safely stowed away under the tables. Our only issue was that two of the tables in the group area (G5) was halfway buried in sand. Good thing we had a little shovel.

The beach is so beautiful. Bring a bike and ride to the sound or beach side for sunrise and sunset. The ponies were around and once we had to discourage them from going through our camp site. We felt like the only people on the beach. Ice was available to purchase as well as firewood.

Reserved sites g5 and g3. Hard to get to g5 through sand. Wish there was shell walkway.from bathrooms to site along dunes to make it easier to pull wagons, etc to site. First day was exhausting. Live site G3.. Also, I used my senior pass at fee gate to get in with no fee. We should still be given something to put on dashboard. I went to store and came back to gate. My camping parking pass was not good for entry. Held up line looking for the season pass again when told I needed to show I pd. Didn't know to show each time coming through gate.
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
