Wild Horses Everywhere! We ideally want to go to Assateague National Park in the fall or spring when the weather is nice, but we went at the end of July during the 95-degree heatwave because we wanted to see the 100th anniversary of the Chincoteague Pony Swim. When we arrived at the park entrance on a Monday, we were immediately greeted by wild horses. It was such an experience! The horses were everywhere, though they typically disappeared during the hottest part of the day. They were beautiful, but could become aggressive during meal times. They chased a group of campers away from their picnic table one night and ransacked all of their things looking for food.We camped in a 5th wheel and stayed in the generator Loop C on the bayside. We had a nice big site with a picnic table and trees blocking the water view. Tent campers were all around us because the Park wanted to utilize their smaller sites, but this didnt mix well in the summer heat. We ran our generator most of the allowable time and by Wednesday morning, the ranger called to say they received several complaints. It turns out that our generator was over the allowable decibel level. Three days before leaving home, we swapped out our smaller generator for a new one to run our new Invitro batteries without considering the noise factor. This was all on us it was our mistake. We packed up and left after staying just 2 nights and the Park staff was really understanding. They gave us a refund and put our site back on the website for others to enjoy. Fortunately, we were able to move to another campground nearby and we saw the horses do the return swim Friday (since we missed the big event on Wed). As we stood in the marsh watching, black water swirled all around our feet. This was definitely a bucket list item! Check out our photos of the swim, as well as the terrain and horses in Assateague. Looking forward to returning in the spring to try out one of the beach sites.

Great time together with kids, with educational opportunities, fun and experience with animals

The first night I was on the Bayside, which is usually pleasant. This time my neighbors were very loud. I was in C47 (I think?), and the people in C48 and also other neighbors on the other side of the loop were blasting music until 2:30 am. They knew what they were doing, too, because they started the music at 9:45pm, just before quiet hours begin. The people on the other side of the loop were also very loud talkers, one of those families where everyone talks at once and no sentence seems to follow the last one. So at some point the other neighbors turned their music up higher to drown out the others. Anyway, music lasted until 2:30 am. It was loud enough to wake the dead so I'm not sure what the campground hosts were thinking. The same people who were loud also used my site to walk right through to theirs, even though it wasn't the fastest way. Just all around rude. The next morning there was a guy letting his dog run around without a leash and run around me while I was filling my water jug. I don't freaking care if it's "just being friendly," I care more about not disturbing horses that could stampede or kick someone. Dog people suck. They always think they can bend the rules for their dog and take up more space than what's allotted to them. The second night I was on the Oceanside and everything was fine. People always behave better on the Oceanside. The showers at the South Beach are broken btw.

We had the best time! The kids saw horseshoe crabs, and collected like a thousand shells and we saw the horses 2-3 times every day. The visitors center was fun and the trails and beaches werent too crowded. We will definitely come back one day! The only note I would make which I'm sure people that camp regularly expect, but there are SO MANY TICS. I found 4 in the car on the way home. Wear all the OFF spray and make sure to protect yourself from tics. Also, don't google how long they live without food.... just dont.

Breath taking and just watch out for the horses you are in their domain.

It is a great place to visit. I am disappointed that they are now allowing campers to park on the grass. This will ruin the park.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
