I already gave a rating of site 18 and some other aspects. I never went to site 7, but did go to Bayside Loop C 42. The site was very small, and would not have been acceptable if I had put up my tent. But I was sleeping in my car, and enjoyed social visits with neighbors and really liked the lack of wind and sand. I missed watching sunrise and moonrise over the ocean, though.

We have been camping at Assateague for more than 25 years and continue to go back year after year. It is truly our "Happy Place!!"

I am hesitant to write this glowing review, because it's already so hard to get a campsite here, but this place is just magical....

Magical place - we had horses visit our tent at sunset and had the most beautiful sunrise on the beachwith dolphins!! The second evening was a stormy night. Our tent barely made it as the beach was super windy and some water got in. So I guess the experience really depends on weather. Camp ground hosts were super nice, as were the other campers. Toilets do not flush but were clean. Overall would highly recommend this place!

Well maintained campsites, easy to navigate signage/roadways, and great wildlife made this a great first-time overnight camping excursion. I will say that the ponies can be a nuisance. The expectation to "give them space" when they enter one's campsite during a meal so they can rummage without any significant 'consequence' is someday not going to end well. Other than that, we found the staff/cadre well-informed and the facilities well maintained. Plenty of information online regarding current conditions--we'll definitely come again.

Stayed in Oceanside site 007 and it was excellent. Right next to the boardwalk, a little bit of a dune to hide the tent against, and such great camp neighbors. Everyone was incredibly respectful of quiet hours and, in general, light usage etc. Assateague is a life long favorite and our campout this time was no exception. Horses came through at dusk and dawn, one band even going up the boardwalk to the ocean. I will say, some oceanside sites driveways can fill in with sand over the season. There is no road parking so you'll want to make sure your car doesn't struggle with that or speak with the camp host.

Love, love, love tent camping on the beach at Assateague! The view is beautiful, the horses are magical (but definitely respect their home), and the other campers are delightful! A little warm water in the showers would be a bonus, especially when the weather is cool.

Wonderful WILD trip with severe storms and high gust winds, but still a joy! Visited Visitor Center to watch movies and tour during one early afternoon rain. Next day rain visited a local vineyard for lunch. Next day storm went to BlackSmith Inn in Historic Berlin Md! Best crab cake ever and only 19.00!!! Bought winter ski hats to help keep warm and ears clear of sand. Cooking on campsite was a challenge but was able to keep food clean with plenty of tops for our pots! Wonderful host, Sue made sure we were settling in several times and even saw campers there from previous years! Best campsite ever!!!!

Majestic. Dolphins at sunrise. PerfectWaves for body surfing. Bonfires and smores. Sleeping under the stars with the sea breeze blowing through the tent. Will definitely come back to this place next year!

Our evening on Assateague was pure magic. We arrived late afternoon, enjoyed boogie boarding and building sandcastles on the beach next to a momma horse and her baby. Once we got our tent set up, we had our dinner, played games and enjoyed s'mores by the fire before sleeping with the sounds of the ocean next to us. A warning for new visitors: the warnings you receive about locking your food up are no joke. If you see horses wandering near your campsite, be quick to store food around your campsite. We watched them pillage several sites (including ours but they just found sand toys and stepped on my son's boogie board :( and they eat everything in sight. We will most certainly come back as sites become available!

I had a wonderful time at the campground at Assateague Island National Seashore the only thing that would have made it better would be if they added hot shower capability somewhere in the National Seashore campground

It's a pretty and unique place to visit for sure. Really wish they would put in some modern bathroom/shower house setup though. Vault toilets I can deal with. Use them all the time. Probably rv campers don't care about the showers too much, but tent campers and van folks would appreciate a hot shower and there is really no place nearby to get one that I could find.
