I've been coming to Assateague my whole life, the group campsites are the best way to do a beach week! There's something special about seeing the sunrise over the Atlantic to start your day at the beach and then watching the sunset over the bay after a a refreshing shower in the evening. The park rangers are friendly and helpful. The bathroom and shower facilities are cleaned regularly. You can buy ice at Assateague Outfitters bayside rental shack or the Beach hut without leaving the park.I'd recommend bringing or renting bikes or something to move around the island to the hiking spots. We rented paddle boards from the bayside rental shack to explore some of the less seen parts of the island.Assateague is a very unique piece of nature that you don't want to miss!

The beach was immaculate. People were friendly and helpful. The horses are great to look at but awful pests lol. I love horses but as we were getting ready to cook our food they ransacked our camp. Too scared to scare them off as I didn't jnow if they'd retaliate so we let them be until a camping neighbor shooed them off for us. A funny story to tell others nonetheless. Other than that, we had a blast. The kids enjoyed themselves the weather was great. I will definitely be returning. This time with tons more bug spray. The mosquitoes are aggressively vicious.

The view in the group camp site can not be beat. Horses, ocean, sunrise, moonrise - all of it. We had perfect weather which added to our experience but the scenery couldn’t be better.

This was a wonderful experience. The staff are very professional and camping on the beach was wonderful. Seeing the wild horses was amazing. I only gave 3 stars because there were no showers and it was not reported that there would not be any showers, it was reported that there would be hot showers beginning the week before my stay. I went 5 days without showering. It should be plainly marked, for instance, 'showers are provided in spring depending on whether the night temperatures are above 55 degrees F so that pipes dont freeze.' This would have been helpful information.

Our stay at the Assateague campgrounds was excellent, complete with multiple pony sightings! The site is right on the beach, complete with a couple picnic tables and fire pits all to ourselves. Check in and parking was easy. The showers and bathrooms are conveniently located nearby, and there are enough of them for all of the surrounding camp sites. If you're visiting in the summer, we'd recommend bringing a shade structure apart from your tents as it got pretty hot early on in the day.

Stayed over the weekend on Group site #2 with a Boy Scout Troop. Well maintained campground on a bB\each with nice and clean latrine.
