Site 25 in particular was great for the view and a fine size for a Class B van, but so much sand as in the site that it really couldn’t have fit anything much bigger than a small trailer or a van. It also didn’t have much level space on either side. All the other sites in the campground were much bigger and most much more flat.
That said, I was still happy with the site. We were in close walking distance to showers and toilets (not flush, but not horrible) and a water spigot. The bike trail was great. The site was just a short walk over the dune to the ocean (not visible from the site unless you’re higher up like in the pop top of the van). Wild horses came by 3x/day. Amazing.
The only downside to this campground was stupid campers who didn’t follow the many, many, many warnings and exhortations not to feed the horses and to stay 40ft away from them. Our second day there, several campers failed to lock away their food in picnic tables and just stood around filming as the horses devoured their food, and others made a mighty racket banging pits and pans to get them to leave…rather than just putting the food in their vehicles! Very frustrating. Every picnic table has a “a fed horse is a dead horse” sign. It was sad so see so many people disrespect the wildlife.
In mid-April, we had warm weather, major winds, and jo trouble at all with biting flies because the winds were strong. I would be happy to be back any time until about mid-May, before the flies get unbearable.
