5/5 stars! My favorite car camping experience so far. We camped inside of our Tesla Model Y on a rainy evening, but the rain stopped by 8am in the morning and we had a great time walking on the beach, exploring the Life of the Forest and Life of the Marsh trails. We saw 13 horses in our time there. We saw a gorgeous horse grazing grass in the Life of the Forest trail and couldn't help but watch it in silence for several minutes. My 8 year old daughter loved everything about this trip. Due to the rain, we couldn't watch the sunrise by the beach and stargaze at night, or watch ghost crabs on the shore in the evening, or watch for dolphins in the horizon. But we already booked our next trip in March of next year, so we hope that weather will be clear enough to do what we couldn't do this time! We already want to make this an annual trip. We live over 3 hour drive away but it was totally worth it. After our trip, we stopped by the small town of Berlin, and grabbed some delicious pastries in Baked. It's a cute town, but not a place we'd go to regularly, but worth a swing if you are in Assateague.

We stayed in our 32 foot fifth wheel on the National side, ocean side. We saw horses early morning hours at our site and late afternoon. Beautiful area to keep your distance and watch them. Beach is soft sand and very nice. There were big waves with undertow, be cautious. Horseflies in morning and mosquitoes at dusk. Recommend bug spray. Great campground to be beach prepared and enjoy nature.

Unique experience in a beautiful setting — perfect for car camping or RVing! We stayed for two days on Ocean Loop 1, site 19 at the end of May. It was a special experience to camp so close to the Atlantic, surrounded by the birds and wild horses of the barrier island. Pick up local firewood from any number of stands along the road to Assateague. Come prepared with sunscreen and bug spray. We didn’t have any issue with bugs once we sprayed ourselves with a 20% picadirin solution. Most people around us were RVing, so we never had a wait for the bathroom or shower. We would go back!

I always love Assateague! Feels like a world away. Very clean and friendly helpful staff.
This is our 2nd time camping on the beach with our RV. Once crossed the bridge, it's like you're in another country - or should I say, a paradise! Friendly rangers, ocean breeze, wild horses, turtles, amazing sunset, star glazing, driving on the sand beach, crabbing, etc. Or just pick your own beach and reach a book. I wish I can visit monthly! Very kids friendly and everyone is so nice :)

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
