As usual everything is wonderful for people who use mobility aids.

early May is still cool, no black flies, few mosquitos; dry camping, paved road & campsites. loved being by seashore. wild ponies everywhere, including sleeping across from our campsite & walking right by us @ our campsite. Chincoteague ponies (further south in VA) had lots of foals. Visitors Center very nice. FYI, must reserve AS SOON as reservations open!

We loved camping so close to the beach and being close to the horses wandering through. It has been on my lists of to dos for a long time.

Wonderful place but the restrooms/bathrooms are awful. They need to renovate the toilets.

This is a beautiful park with an extraordinary amount of beautiful things to do and see. We wish would have stayed for longer than one night. We definitely saw horses on the beach, and in our campground. We stayed in the Oceanside Loop. Only negative was one camper who ran a very loud generator from 7A until almost 10PM while we were there and then fired it up again the next morning. We have batteries and solar, so we are very sensitive to this. Instead of sitting around our campfire at night, looking at the stars and hearing waves crashing...it sounded like a construction site. It is my understanding that at least one member from the group has to remain on the site while the generator is running, but they definitely were all off of the site. I have also read that the generator cannot exceed 50 decibels from 50 feet away, but I measured it and it was nearly 60db from over 150 ft away. Otherwise, a beautiful, beautiful place worth revisiting.

Best camping ever! Right on the beach. We had a fantastic time and are planning on coming back. A few tips: come prepared for bugs...lots of bugs. Bring you own shade tent, there is no shade anywhere so bring hats, tents and sunscreen. Secure your tent with the longest stakes you can find, it gets windy.Heed the warnings to not leave anything out at your campsite when you leave! The horses can be destructive and will definitely go through your stuff.

Been to Assateague Island many times have changed the visitor is different than before. Stay there for 8 days three of those days groups having parties stay up till 1:00 2:00am the campground rule is 10:00 p.m. quiet time it just destroyed you experience of being there something need to be done by that and many times when a empty camp site is available outside visitor come in have party too then leave a mess.
Overall Assateague as beautiful as ever

expect a primitive camping experience
staff at check in building were quite cautionary , and as a result not very welcoming.
And I wan only there in June, hope they hold up for the entire summer

We had a great time in Assateague! Our campsite was right next to the bathrooms which was very convenient (especially because I’m pregnant and we had 2 kids with us), my husband and son got to witness a baby horse being born which is incredible, and a group of horses came through our camp! I’m glad there were cabinets to store our food, or the horses would’ve taken it. We couldn’t have asked for better weather either, it was a great weekend!

We loved the oceanside camping. Our favorite place is on the bench at the top of the walkway in loop 1. Enjoy

This is one of the most beautiful NPS camping sites on the Atlantic Ocean! You must have DEET spray for black flies due to the beautiful wild horses on this picturesque island. This place is AMAZINGLY beautiful!! Explore the marsh boardwalk area. Explore everything, but give horses their space. They are wild.

Bring extra-long heavy duty stakes for use in the sand to secure your tent. Pick a site that is further back from the beach to find a grassy area to avoid as much sand in tent.
