Bring some extra ropes/stakes,; it can be breezy. The night sky tends to be much clearer than in rural New York.

Campground was clean and fellow campers observed quiet hours. Family-friendly and the park is well maintained with great park rangers!

They're not kidding about the biting insects! As long as you're well coated in bug spray, this place is wonderful. The facilities are well maintained and the campsites are a generous size while maintaining a bit of privacy.

Very clean and up kept park. The heavy mosquitoes were the only downside of our trip. Even with repellent with heavy deet we still came home with hundreds of bug bites. There was beautiful scenery all around on the island and we got some beautiful pictures that we came home with.

Assateague, with it's Ocean beaches, bay marshes and huge, diverse, ever changing migrating (and residential) wildlife make visiting at any time of year a treasure to enjoy. Looking forward to returning as soon as we find an open reservation.

The beach is beautiful (remember an umbrella as it can get hot). We havent needed a screen tent for a few years now as the mosquitoes are not that bad.

I stayed two nights on the bayside camp site and my last night on a walk-up beach campsite. The bayside was conveniently located near the restrooms and shower and offered great views of the bay and daily horse visitors. Camping on the beach was fabulous! The site is just a short walk from the parking lot and bathrooms. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves and waking up with the sunrise was relaxing and inspiring. I will stay at the walk ups in the future now that I know what a short distance it is form the parking area.

Brought my kayak from home and went on the bay. Rentals are also conveniently located in right on the bay in the parking lot so you don't have to transport a kayak on your vehicle. Stunning wildlife, awe-inspiring views, and invigorating exercise opportunities abound at Assateaque National Park.

The Marsh walk was our favorite of the walks that are around.

The campsites are close together so it is not secluded at all. You will be surrounded by other campers.

We had a great time. The only thing we would have liked is hot showers.

A magical place for both kids and adults. Definitely a bucket list item / must-see destination. Horses can be seen on all areas of the island (bay, beach, forest, and often throughout the campsites)! Do not miss this opportunity.

Wow! What a magical trip. We stayed on the Baysid Loop B for a few nights and the Ocean Sode loop one night. The bayside sites have more vegetation and a bit more privacy while the ocean side sites are at the ocean and wonderful too! We lived everything! The facilities were clean, everyone was friendly and respectful and there were wild horses all around and about. We even saw a seal come onshore one evening. Truly love this park!

We worked remotely and had 2-3 bars for Verizon and AT&T. Bayside had better service than the ocean side for the other remote working road warriors!

The new picnic table food storage bins were really helpful for keeping things from our horse friends (still lost half a stick of butter that we didn’t put away to a curious horse, though)!

End of March was actually a great time to go - even though the water was freezing (a bit better on the Bay side), it was warm enough out to take a dip once or twice and there were - wait for it - no bugs!

Assateague Campground was amazing. The camping spaces are quite large and flat with a reasonable amount of shade, picnic table, and fire ring. The programs put on by the rangers are great and fun for a wide variety of ages. The ponies wander through the campground and are quite used to humans, so if you accidentally end up too close to them in the middle of the night while searching for the bathroom, you will probably be fine (that being said, you should still follow bear protocol and put everything where they can't get to it when you aren't using it and stay at least a bus length away from them if possible). The only thing we weren't as prepared for was how fierce the mosquitoes were. Even with diligent bug spray use, we still got quite a few bites. Overall, we greatly enjoyed the Assateague Campground and would definitely camp there again.
