We arrived in the rain. Our site was postage stamp size, just large enough for our trailer and tow vehicle. The grass around our table and fire ring was at least a foot tall. The Site area was very small with bushes defining the borders. There were clouds of mosquitos! If the grass had been cut and the bushes cut back a little it may have been doable but as it was we weren't willing to endure the mosquitos so we left.Good news is that we got a partial refund Thank you for that.

The horses are beautiful. The park is clean and inviting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful experience, looking forward to next time.

Our main purpose for coming was to see the wild horses. We had seen several during our first day. However, on the second night of our stay in the Bayview Campground, we had four horses come to our site and sleep right next to our camper. This was a awesome event for us!

Good facilities, cold showers, clean but pit style toilets. Well maintained and supervised. Be sure to get a site in the “B” section if you can’t deal with generator noise. The horses walked right through the site several times a day. Great birding!

It was disappointing that we couldn’t have a dog on several trails. I understand people don’t adhere to the leash law and that is a shame because people who do adhere to the leash law should be able to take the dogs after Labor Day and before memorial day on these trails

Getting a reservation to camp on Assateague is impossible. After endless tries, I booked 3 nights on 3 different campsites only to arrive and discover that half the campsites were vacant! However, the park is a true wonder. From the ocean to the bay, a unique environment needs to be cherished.

I was so thankful that someone decided to actually cancel their reservation when their plans changed! I checked availability every day for a week to be able to camp here. Just one night, but being on the beach at 9:00 was so wonderful! Horses right up to our camper…

I've always stayed in the MD. State Park, but tried the Bayside camping instead. Loved it! Camp sites our not close together, as they are on beach side. We had the option to swim in the ocean or the bay, which was nice. The bike trails thru out the State and National Parks are so nice. I love going to Assateague Maryland as there are so many places that the only one on the beach, is you.
Would be nice to have hot water for showers though. That's the only down fall, but on real hot days, the cold water isn't so bad. We survived. Will go every summer if possible. We went to Ocean City, which is only 10 minutes away. We drove down to Chincoteague, Virginia for a day. Otherwise we sat on the beach with the wild ponies, swam in the Ocean and Bay, walked secluded beaches, and spent alot of time on our bikes. Loved the one night when I heard something outside our camper. We turned on the outside light and there stood a wild pony under our canopy nibbling on grass. This is my favorite place to vacation!

Springtime at Assateague National Seashore Campground is a special time. May is a little unpredictable as far as weather is concerned (cool nights, cloudy days on occasion) but the sunsets are spectacular and the ponies are in rare form. We witnessed some 'randy' behavior among the young studs and mares as well as a fight between two competing studs. They were everywhere and fascinated everyone in the ocean front campground. The place is just plain magical. The campground, though rustic, is very well maintained and patroled.

We had a great stay in Assateague. Saw many horses. Beware of the sand burrs that get in your dog's feet!
