Was such a unique experience. We knew about the wild horses but had no idea they would wander right up to you at your campsite. When we arrived and were setting up a horse came onto our campsite and didnt seem to care we were there. Same thing happened when we were packing up the night before our departure. The beach was beautiful as were the trails. Bike trails were great Had a great time. We will be back.

Great campsite! The restrooms and water supply were nearby our campground and all were functional. Trust the advice the rangers give you; not only horses will invade your site if you do not keep food under lock, but coyotes will too. We saw that happen to another group. All in all, this was a unique camping area with incredible wild animals. I highly recommend it.

Disappointed that because I forgot my America the Beautiful Senior Pass card in my RV I was not permitted to get back in the National campground area without purchasing an annual pass. I offered to get it and bring back to gate but they would not allow me to do that even though we had our camping hang tag in the car and had just checked in that morning.

Assateague was an amazing experience. I was just expecting to maybe see one or two horses from a distance, but there were a ton. They were on the beach and in our campground. Even saw some colts. The trails are well-maintained and expose you to wonderful wildlife, including bald eagles! The marsh trail gives you access to a beautiful bayside beach that feels like an oasis. The campground is well maintained. We used an RV. Has dumping station and water (both drinkable and for washing). The washing water is chlorinated I think just be prepared for the slight odor if you're not used to it. Staff super friendly. Overall an unforgettable experience. We went end of April so there weren't many bugs. Careful for ticks on the trail next to the visitor center. I hear there are lots of mosquitoes during warmer months so be prepared. Make a stop at the Assateague shop on the way in (it's the closest and last shop to the island). Firewood 3 for $15 and they have lots of cool stuff inside the store. Wonderful storeowners too.

Great staff. Horses were fun to watch. Campground was nice but roads are one way and some of the pull through sites face the wrong way relative to the road.

First, though no fault of anyone, the daytime temperatures were in the 95-100 degree range and nighttime temperatures were in the 80-85 degree range and the humidity was above 90% the entire time we were there. We sweltered! Second, also nobody’s fault, the bugs were outrageous. If we stepped outside unslathered with insect repellant at dawn or dusk each defensive swipe left streaks of brown and red on on covered limbs from their bodies and our blood. We had a much more positive experience on a previous trip in late April with few insects and much more moderate temperatures. Third the potable water faucet at the Bayside dump station has extremely low pressure and flow, while the non-potable water faucet next to it works just fine. Finally, the park is beautiful, and the campsites are level and clean with nicely designed paved parking sites. The picnic tables and fire pits are all well maintained. We may well return someday, but it will most certainly be before mid-May or after mid-October.

We had a wonderful time! We hit the outlets, local golf courses, stayed on Assateague and walked the trails, took pictures of the sunrises, spent time with family, and met some new friends!

Fantastic campground, seeing the horses running through was nothing short of magical! Staff and camp hosts were very friendly. Just remember to bring bug spray!
