We trailer camped on the Bayview side. Easy access, level, and plenty of room with good separation between sites. Pit toilets. No utilities. Situated in the salt marsh in the immediate vicinity of horses and other wildlife in abundant number and variety. Easy hiking in the marsh, dunes, forests, and beach. Wonderful nature preserve!

Great campground. The only thing that would make it better would be not allowing generators.

The park was fine. The negatives to the experience was the sand flies and not having electricity. We had to open our windows and the flies came in through the screens, by the 1000s. We were scheduled to stay 3 nights, but left a day early.

Our stay was for one night at Bayside A20. We enjoyed our short visit. We arrived greeted along side the road by the ponies we had come to see. That evening we set off to the Life of The Marsh Trail. The boardwalk view of the marsh was magical. At one end the trail comes to a small beach. More ponies sighted. The following morning before departing we walked to the beach area beyond the Oceanside campground enjoying the white sand and dunes. No ponies visited our campsite, we did have bunnies visit. Our cat who travels with us was fascinated by them. My only reservation about the campsite was the cold showers. The cold shower was refreshing after a very hot evening and morning walk. We would camp again at Assateague Island campground in a heartbeat.

Just remember to follow the lock box rules for food storage. We put everything away and had no issues with the horses. However there were several sites that got ransacked do to them leaving items out. Make sure to bring your bug spray for bay side camp spots. Keeping all that in mind we had an excellent time.

We visited in mid July and stayed in the sound side Loop A. Be prepared for wild ponies to meander through your campground every day, sometimes two or three times. They also stampeded through the campground once, then made their way galloping down the beach while the lead males nipped at each other. It was a little scary at times. The vault toilets are not nice to use, but get the job done. At times you can be swarmed by mosquitoes, so Deet spray is mandatory. We ran a generator after coming back from the beach, the trailer was too hot to work in, but the tents were not too bad. In the evening it was cool enough to sleep without AC. We will come back and try for an ocean side campground next time. The ocean and beach were awesome.

We read reviews and expected to get carried away by mosquitoes...they were bad, but less than we expected after reading the horror stories. If you sprayed with some deet (we used 45%), they wouldn't bother you as much. Definitely don't let the bugs keep you away from this campground!! The sites are nice and big and the horses frequented around at least 2-3x per day on the 2 days days we stayed here. We didn't have a great bay view, but it was still a nice site. Facilities were decent, nothing fancy. We tried to avoid the bayside campground when booking, but ended up staying 2 nights here and we would do it all over again...nothing wrong with it at all! Only downside is its not as close to the beach, but its not too far if you choose to walk. Beautiful simple campground with wild horses...can't beat it!

This was one of the greatest places I’ve ever been. I kept adding nights because it was all so lovely. Don’t miss the clamming and crabbing lessons from the rangers. I rented a kayak one day and one of the guys there told me how to collect mussels, so I had grilled mussels a couple of nights. The beach is lovely and I love that the horses roam through the campgrounds. They’ll takeover your fire because the smoke keeps the bugs off, but it’s well worth it. The only problem was the bugs, but that wasn’t bad on the Oceanside. Great experience overall. Can’t wait to return!

Nice camp ground, especially Bayside loops which are somewhat sheltered from wind and water (high tides!). Facilities are adequate. Electric service would be a plus. Walking trails and other facilities are very nice.

Stayed at Loop A 20 the first night, which was a back in site. Quiet and private - close to public restroom if need them. Several ferel horses in the area grazing. This site was close to the bay and had a fire pit near the picnic table. We walked to the end and watched the sunset. Upon checking out the next morning, we decided to stay another night and booked C Loop 48. This was a parallel parking slightly curved space. Our RV at 39 feet was on the grass a good bit. It was a very nice spot with it's own access to the bay overlooking the bridge with ferel horses in the marshes way off. It wasn't as private though. There was a site directly in front of us. We didn't have any chairs with us (since we just purchased this home) and the fire pit was a good distance from the picnic bench. But it was worked all the same dancing around the pit. The dump station is right there as you head out of Loop C. We walked less than a mile to the ocean front and then walked for miles along the beach where we saw a pod of dolphins at the sand bar - what a beautiful site! It was a cool, breezy, rainy couple of days - but absolutely perfect!! Not so much us with the generator until 10pm .... but the setups people had being off the grid were mind blowing. Campers are the best bunch of people to socialize with and learn from!!! Great experience!

The Island and Campsites were great. We saw many horses and other wildlife and enjoyed our stay. Wish the trails were open, but we must of just hit the park the day before they closed them, for they were open when we got there and the next day they were closed. The Wildlife Marsh boardwalk was great getting to see jelly fish along the shore before it closed. This was Mid October. While there we took several trips. The Visitor Center and the State parking lot at the end of the bridge besides walking across the bridge. NASA Wallops Flight Facility on our way to the southern end of the island. Assateague Light house, wildlife loop drive, We also hit Fort Monroe in Va, along with the Wright Brothers Monument in NC, Roanoke Island, the lost colony, Fort Raleigh, Bodie lighthouse. There is probably lots more you can do but we ran out of time.

We had the most amazing time here. Everything went flawlessly from check in, to the site, to the campground hosts and the cleanliness. The ocean and the bay are spectacular. And the horses... the horses- they are incredible I would recommend Assateague Island National Seashore to anyone.

This park is a gift from God and we thank the NPS for helping to preserve it and keep it accessible for those who appreciate its many treasures. When I observe other visitors enjoying the island in different ways I feel like we all share a common bond, whether kitesurfing or fishing or overlanding or just being quiet around a cracking fire. Every time I leave I begin my longing to return again. Big mahalo.

We stayed 4 days on the ocean side & 3 days on the bay side both sites was nice. The park is clean. The rangers and campground host offered a wealth of information for the park and surrounding area.

I wa son the Bayside Loop A. The short walk to the marsh view boardwalk loop was the perfect place to watch a glorious sunset. I also did the forest loop, which winds up being across from the marsh loop. Also a great sunset watching place. Next time, I'll try to get a site on the ocean side.

We have been there many times, we always enjoy it. Bayside is our favorite side as we don't have sand in everything. Easy to access both bay and ocean waters. Bicycling, fishing, swimming, crabbing is all close by.
