Toilets are gross. Invest in new bathrooms. Ew.

We camped on the Bay side for two weeks and the campground host and park staff were very friendly and helpful. The sites had planty of room and clean. We were there to surf fish and access was easy, but the weather and the fishing were poor. Overall good experience, we'll be back.

Assateague is very popular, so come early if you want a good experience entering the park. If not, you WILL wait in a long line. As a paid camper, I felt it was an inconvenience. There should be a separate entry for campers to bypass the long line of unpaid visitors who are not staying at the park. Assateague seashore is lovely. Very pleasant. The facilities were not really on par, but it's a restroom. The restrooms are nasty, (Especially the day use) stinky, nasty. The day use pavilion with picnic tables was filthy, garbage all over the ground, tables were disgusting, full of grease and grime. It is something that needs to be addressed. No one wants to sit in a filthy pavilion with sickening food and trash on the ground like that. The campsites are ok. The one we stayed at was a little odd regarding configuration, but we managed. Overall, the park is sorely sub par with regard to cleanliness, but the beach is lovely. The horses are actually interesting in that they graze inside the campground . They don't really bother so long as you have your food out of reach. In the morning there were wild turkeys in our camp. I liked that. We might come back, but not to camp. It's not worth it because the park lacks cleanliness. But day use and a beach day, if you come early, you'll love it, so long as you don't have to use the restroom, or that pavilion. YUCKY!

This is a beautiful area to camp. One thing to be aware of is that non-camping people frequently drive through to see the horses in the day time. Some are even so bold as to picnic at the campsites that are empty during the lunch hour (in between check-in and check-out of past and future guests). This can be frustrating to have lines of cars driving through all day when your kids just want to bike/scooter around the ring. Our toddlers were constantly having to pull over to let the cars inch by--confused whether the cars were actually moving or just sitting around waiting to see the Bayside band of horses.

the site was not suitable for a trailer it should be designated as a tent only site. I wasn`t able to use the site so an hour after i arrived I left and went home.

My only criticism would be to have a larger no generator zone. Maybe the end of loop A as well as 1/2 of loop B. And a sign on the picnic tables warning campers not to put coolers in the enclosed area under the table. Raccoons still can access that!
Loved the beach, the kayaking in the marshes and the ponies of course.
I also feel all national parks should adopt a policy requiring campers to turn outside lights off during quiet hours. Especially those super bright RV bars of lights. ....Let's bring back dark skies wherever possible please

The people across from us pulled in at 10:30PM. They set up tents, yelled at their kids, blew up air mattresses right across from our tent. They kept us awake and then at 1AM they finally settled down. I was going to ask them to be quiet but they were pretty rough sounding (swearing) so I just waited it out.

My visit to assateague was as amazing as always. I do wish that some how no show reservations could be handed different . So that others could be able to spend more time. But I know its nearly impossible. Otherwise my daughter and I absolutely loved our visit and we will be making reservations again soon hopefully for longer next time.

Nice area. Unremarkable facility, pads could at least be level for 30 a night. Great for what it is.
