Clean, peaceful & easy to relax!Beware of heavy flies & mosquitoes, bring lots of bug spray!Beautiful place to camp & visit! Take your kids to the visitor center for their museum and to become a junior ranger. They also have a schedule of things to do!

Assateague is my absolute favorite place to take a vacation, and in fact is the only place I have gone on vacations in the last several years. The park is very well kept, beautiful, and so relaxing. I only go in the spring and fall. I do think summer would be too hectic for me, but 100% recommend Spring/Fall camping here!

A17 is a beautiful bay-front spot with an amazing view across the marsh. Facilities were close enough to be easy, but far enough to not be a bother. Room for 2 tents (6-person and 3 person), but not much more. No tie-out points for dining fly.

Site (unseen except reservation picture) was GREAT! It sat in between some tall shrubbery that blocked direct sunlight in the morning until about 8-9am. Then it had a tall tree and more shrubbery that started blocking the tent area and picnic table around 4-5 from direct sunlight. Did have a canopy set up over table. This site offered a great breeze that kept air constantly moving so bugs (Mid-end June) were not an issue from the summer evenings we were already used to in Central PA. Rained one night out of 3 on us. Sandwiches between a storm off coast and one inland, it created enough wind we had to take down the canopy. Temps ended up in high 70s daytime and high 60s at night. (Cooler than PA that week!)Bathhouse had pit toilet and a COLD shower stall, 2 per bathhouse. Water pump outside and fountains outside. Wish is would have had a sink available for washing up/washing dishes. Had dumpster by bathhouse to dispose of garbage. First night horses came in to graze at our site and left droppings, but during the next day while we were out at the beach, someone had come and cleaned it up in the immediate campsite area.

Assateague is my favorite place to camp! I've been visiting for 10 years now. This was the first time the horses weren't as visible. Generators are not permitted during quiet hours yet for the second year in a row now someone had one running all night. This definitely needs patrolled better. Also for the second year the lock on one of the bathroom doors was not working properly. Maintenance did come to look at it but it was not fixed before the end of my stay. Minor inconveniences for the quality of my overall experience in Assateague.

Assateague is a very special place combining biking, kayaking, camping, and of course beautiful horses. We loved our stay and recommend it as a wonderful vacation spot. Of course, Ocean City is only a few miles away as well--you can't ask for more!

The only thing I want to put in this review was the fact that we were blessed to have 3 calm, gentle horses sleep with us by the fire for several hours on our first night. My wife has been camping once in her 47 years. This was her second. She was so absolutely thrilled with the experience that she will even camp again. Not once did the horses become aggressive or rude or even touch a thing of ours. They simply liked the fire as it kept the bugs away from us all. They also managed to trim all the grass around the tents too! I finally had to go to bed because I was tired, but mum and baby horse stayed for the fire. What an absolutely priceless experience to have in life. We WILL be returning to camp again. The facilities and the people were wonderful! The camp neighbors even tried to right our netting that had flipped while we were away. If I had 5 thumbs, they would ALL be up!

We had a great time. We were especially impressed with the lifeguards at the beach. We were camped at A17 Bayside,
and the campground was fine, except for the bathrooms. There was no lighting. There was no sink with running water
to brush our teeth. There was no shower in the campground, although the shower was adequate at the beach. We appreciated
the attention to caution around the wild horses. We found the check-in process a bit tedious on Tuesday morning, having arrived
late on Monday evening 23rd August.

We stayed on the Bay side and the sites were large and well spaced. We were there early June and were happy that there were no bugs. The horses were beautiful and all over the place. We had one cut through our site 4 nights in a row just after dark. He would walk right by the fire and head into the marsh. Most of the time we never heard him until he was already past us. The beach was one of the nicest we have been to and bring lots of sunscreen! Staff were super friendly and were always working to keep the area clean. We plan to return!

Lovely place to come to just breathe. The ponies were active, the campground was quiet, and the bathrooms were clean.

I spent my 1st night at loop A, One of the campers had very LOUD generator that they ran till 10 PM and turned back on at 6 AM. Fortunately I was able to switch to loop B the second night where generators are prohibited.
