Love this place. Would have given a 5 star if not for the chemical toilets not having lights; some do by the ocean but in bay side camping area they dont have electricity to the buildings.

We visited early in the season, so we expected the weather to be cold. It was cold, windy and we had a full day of rain. With that said, we had a great time, walking the dogs to the beach, saw some horses close and around the park. We camped on the Bayside in C42 with a 37' Class A and toad and had plenty of room. The sites on our side of the road were backwards for back in but with the weather we did not turn around. We were only able to sit around the fire on one evening so we did not really set up a full outside area. The visitor center was very worthwhile as it gives an abundance of history about the park and the staff is very helpful. We will definitely return in a slightly warmer time of year, but we were not disappointed as the park was sparsely occupied and very relaxing.

Overall it was a good experience. It's a really beautiful park. The campsites are adequate. The tick/mosquito population is extraordinary. I'm not sure if NPS can do anything about this but it was seriously much worse than previous years.

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Site C42 has some division from adjacent sites, but not the site across the road which was a large noisy family playing ball games on the ashalt and ignoring site boundaries. The road has frequent through traffic all hours.) This sight has no view other than other camp sites. The mosquitos and Texas Star ticks are a nuisance. Toilet facilities are very basic (outhouse like). The island itself is beautiful, worth exploring, just don't expect much solitude.

The campsite was nice and relatively private for how close it was to the others. We had a horse visit in the campsite.

It was a magical experience seeing the pony’s and other wildlife, plants and of course the beach on the island.
Great place for families. Clean facilities. Despite going early in the season (mid-May), the weather was beautiful, the bugs were minimal, and there were no crowds.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
