We camped in late March and stayed on both Bayside (for one night) and Oceanside (for three nights). The weather was a mix of cold, wet and beautiful, The park is very well kept, extremely beautiful and a really special place with the ocean, bay, wild ponies, wild turkeys and an unbelievable assortment of birds. The Camp hosts were friendly and very helpful. The Park Rangers were welcoming, kind and extremely knowledgeable . Overall a great time, can't wait to go back!

A great camping experience with pristine beaches, and just as many ponies as people along our hikes. Courteous staff dealing with dry conditions and fire ban in effect -- so some confusion on allowing our enclosed propane fire ring. Recommend gaining clarification on any equipment restrictions as you check inFinally, have the ranger station number (410) 641-3030 in your phone contacts, just in case.

Assateague is a beautiful national state park. So cool to see the horses roaming free they do come very close to your campsite. Thus us their home so appreciate that and respect their home and freedom. Wish the bathroom and shower facilities were a bit nicer and user friendly!! We will definitely go back to visit and enjoy the beach and some hiking trails!! Beautiful park!!

First, the good. We visited in August and saw wild ponies at the campsite every day! This campground is also super convenient to navigate the rest of the small seashore. My husband and I brought our bikes and were extremely happy that we did, as there are plenty of well-maintained and convenient places to bike alongside the road. We were easily able to ride to the Visitor's Center and the beach, which was really nice.

Now, the bad. My main piece of advice about this campground is: some sites are WAY better than others! We were unlucky and got a site that was downwind from the restroom about 40% of the time we were there. Never have I experienced a worse-smelling site. We also had no shade whatsoever. It would be great if more information about the sites were available online so people can make better choices.

Unfortunately, people in the campground also were not the best neighbors. People with RVs did not generally respect quiet hours; we saw park rangers telling people to turn off their generators one night, but it seems like enforcement was spotty. We also saw people feeding the wild horses which is obviously very bad for the horses. I think things would be better with more campground hosts and/or park rangers around.

I don't regret staying here at all because it's a beautiful area! But I definitely recommend doing your research and finding a site that will work for you, because again, some are a LOT better than others.

Wonderful camp site. Bathroom and water was right next to our site. We camped in the beginning of May and the foot traffic past our site was not that heavy. It was peaceful and the other campers were friendly. My 8 year old daughter enjoyed being able to ride her bike around the camping loop without supervision. The walking trails are all very nice, bring a camera for gorgeous wildlife photos. The wild horses are fascinating to watch! Plenty to do right on the island or you can drive over and visit ocean city boardwalk. Highly recommend!
