The campground was clean; spaces were easy to back into with plenty of space for our 16ft trailer and truck. We were a little disappointed that dogs were allowed in the campground but not on the trails. You should pay attention to the warnings about the wild horses and make sure everything is put away even if you are at your site. Storage space is provided under the picnic tables and should be used. The horses came through one evening and did tear into the site across from us.

The whole island (NPS) was beautiful! The dunes are thriving, as are the horses. I loved it!

The beach is beautiful and horses are stunning but this bayside camp has absolutely zero shade until literal sunset. There is no reason whatsoever to tent camp here as you will be surrounded by generators humming. I would 100% come back to the park but it's best avoid unless you can get a beach side camp.
Loved the ocean side. Didn’t enjoy the bay side as much— no breeze and lots of insects.

I loved camping here; I only wish we could have stayed longer. I was anticipating having to deal with biting flies and many mosquitoes, but it wasn't much of an issue. The weather was perfect- cooler and breezy in the evening, and delightfully warm during the day.
As always a great place. Well kept and all enjoyable.

Summer is probably not the best time for staying at Bay Loop, unless you are 100% mosquito proof. We've been there 3 times during different summer months and it was different experience all 3 times. This time we weren't lucky, as we were out of a brand new bottle of mosquito repellent the next day. Even though we used all of our repellent, we got bitten through our clothes.

We camped in C-49 after a storm. Knowing we were camping on an island close to the bay & and after a storm we expected some water/flooding in the area. However, we didn't expect to be in the horses drinking area, it was dryed up the day after we arrived. We learned that the horses like taking smoke baths by bogarting our fire to get their bugs off too, a mare with her very young foal shortly followed by their stallion. The foal was interested in trying to meet my toddler, young horse curiosity with a small human. We did keep our distance paying close attention because the stallion did come around behind us to push us farther away and the foal closer to it's mother. Beautiful experience with very intelligent horses!!!
We only spent one night at Assateague since that was all that was available, but it was wonderful. We stayed in loop C of the bayside campground and had a gorgeous view of the bay. The bike path was very enjoyable, and I was able to get in a ten mile ride, and we were able to view several groups of the wild horses and even a 3 day old foal. The pit toilets were clean as was our campsite. I would definitely return.

Bay side campsites are our favorite. Large sites for the most part that are spread out for moderate privacy.
Fire ring had burnt cans and many days worth of wet ash in it.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
