A truly amazing piece of coastal nature with horses and all the expected wildlife. Stunning sunrise and sunsets over the water just a short walk from camp for both. Only caution is the sand spurs on the A loop. Puppy friendly space but not on their paws. Otherwise a great dry camping outing!

We love Assateague And have been there many times. Being able to drive on the beach is why we go. We are not fisherman, but enjoy the peace and quiet of sitting, reading and walking on the beach and simply watching the waves.

A quiet park with dark skies were highlights of our overnight stay. The wild horses wandering through the camp were certainly unique! It took three days to clear out our trailer of all the flies we accumulated there overnight.
What a beautiful place! The campsites are large and level and the views and wildlife are incredible. Only downsides were not being able to move the picnic table and the little prickers throughout the grass that kept getting stuck in my dog's paws. Other than that we had a magical trip!
Awesome weather and plenty of horses doing their horsey thing. The experience of living among the horses for a couple of days was an experience you can't get just visiting. Bring the DEET though; horses, horse$H!T, horseflies. Be prepared...
This is a beautiful campground. We loved our site. Very quiet and lots of room. Really liked the asphalt pad. The ponies are so fun to see and gorgeous. We walked on all of the trials and really enjoyed them. Thank you!

Ridiculously inefficient entrance procedure, where even though you have a camping tag you still need to prove you have an entrance permit, valid entrance for duration of camping should be confirmed upon issuance of camping tag, reducing congestion and backup at entrance station.

This stay at Asseteague was no different than others we’ve had, one word sums it up.......FABULOUS. This place is our absolute FAVORITE place to camp and we’ve been to MANY MANY places!

Horses everywhere made this a magical experience. Staff and volunteers were so hospitable, informative and genuinely a pleasure to interact with. Fishing and kayaking and sand dunes and hikes and extremely lovely camp set up. We cannot wait to return again and again.
Great trip, just wish others would follow guidelines posted regarding interaction with horses
