We reserved a campsite Bayside because that was the only campground accepting reservations. When we checked in, we requested an oceanside first come first served site. The park ranger quickly changed our reservation for no additional fee. The campsite was perfect! We parked our Teardrop and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The clouds rolled in and the night was extremely dark, no light pollution except for a slight glow in the north from Ocean City. When the clouds cleared, the stars were absolutely breathtaking! The sunrise over the waves was also incredibly beautiful. Although it was breezy and cold, the fire in the firepit kept us warm outside. The Teardrop was plenty warm without the heater. Our campsite was just across the driveway from the vault toilets. We appreciated the convenience. The toilets were well stocked and clean. We needed our lanterns because there were no lights near the toilets. We greatly appreciated the preservation of the darkness! The wild ponies were not the only wildlife. We saw lots of seagulls, wrens, sparrows, warblers, ducks, and heron. We saw only a few people. Late November is a great time to visit Assateaque Island!

Was a wonderful place to camp. We had horses grazing through the campground. Very short walk to a beautiful clean beach. Be prepared there is no light at all in or near vault toilet. Bonus - no bugs! (Mid Sept) Ocean Loop 2; site #34 Need a hot shower you can pay at State campground that you pass on the way in.

Ocean side campground in the off season was very nice. We picked a stellar day and night to spend there-no wind, good sunset/sunrise, stars, horses during the day and sunset, beautiful sand, overall spectacular. Would definitely come again.

We arrived without a reservation but it was off season and sites were available. Check-in was quick and easy at the ranger's station. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Our site was clean and the bathrooms were clean as well. Bathrooms had plenty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer was available. This is a beautiful campground with a lot of wildlife. We saw horses (of course), deer, fox, and a few different birds on a walk to the bay side. The sunrises here are absolutely beautiful over the Atlantic. On a clear night the stars are amazing (bring a red light and star chart)! Overall, this campground is a fantastic place to visit, you would not be disappointed!

We loved visiting Assateague. The wildlife was amazing and everywhere. Our time was way too short. We will be back soon I hope.

Such an amazing spot to camp! It might have been a blustery and cold March day we were there, but the scenery and the ponies were all amazing. The campsite was clean, easy to access, and the location right next to the beach was wonderful. We'll definitely return!

This National Seashore is something out of a dream! The wild horses were out and about all day everyday. The grounds were immaculate and all the rangers were very helpful and accommodating. Make sure to pack lots of bug spray and sunblock and enjoy one of the best parks I have ever been to.

Great place for a spring or fall camping trip. The site parking areas are blacktop and level, and the sites were widely separated with easy access for RVs to get into the sites. Be aware that the fire rings and picnic tables are in the sand dune on the outside sites, so not all are level. There are no showers and only pit toilets, however the toilets were cleaned daily and there was no pit toilet smell. There is no shade anywhere in the park, so be prepared if you come here during the summer months. On 2 different days, had ponies walking through the campground and my site, so be sure to bring a camera to get great pics. Put any food away or the ponies will take it as they walk through the sites looking for anything they can find. Easy walk over the sand dune to be right on the beach. Suggest packing your bicycles as the area is flat and there are bike trails through the entire park and back to the Verrazano bridge. You can also ride through the adjoining Maryland State Park.Great place to camp, I'll be going back again; and I highly recommend this to everyone.

We enjoyed camping at Assateaque, but thats only because we love camping in very close proximity to the beach. (This review is for Oceanside campground, not Bayside.) There is nothing at all special about the campground itself, and in any other environment I would rate it only 2-3 stars. The sites have no privacy or shade whatsoever, and although some sites are close to the beach, the dunes obscure any view that one might otherwise have, and they also block any ocean breeze you might hope and pray for on hot, muggy nights. The horses are a fun and unusual component, but their presence does mean large piles of droppings everywhere (including right in your campsite) as well as the associated flies. Weve camped here in the fall and the summer, and will not return again in summerever. The combined heat and crowds were just not worth the effort of camping. Many have talked about the mosquitos, but I think that is mostly a problem at Bayside, because we never saw any during our one week stay at Oceanside in late July. We camped in a small RV, so we didnt have to use the pit toilets or un-heated showers, and based on the frequent long lines for both, Im especially grateful for that. If you love horses, you might love the experience of camping among them. If you love spending time at the beach, this campground puts you just a short walk away. But otherwise, its just a shadeless spot among sand, brush, and horse droppings.

We always have an enjoyable time! We love seeing the horses! Checking-in is never a problem, the staff is helpful and courteous. The park is very clean. We are fortunate to live close to the park and can 'drop in' often. It is a nice get-a-way to hear and see the ocean and occasionally build a campfire. I'm ready to go again-soon!

This was on my bucket list for a long time. It did not disappoint. Definitely not wilderness camping, but beautiful and a lot of fun. The only anxiety was getting the camp sites I wanted 6 months in advance.
