Staff were very helpful and were careful about protecting the horses as well as the people. Very clean. Lots of flies, but thats not under their control.

We were on the Bayside in the A campground and these do not have electricity or water. It is a great campground because we always have visits from the wild horses. They even sometimes sleep next to your camper. It is a great place to hike or bike and the seashore is very pristine. However, I go for the wild horses. If you want to see animals in the wild living their free live, this is the place.

The rangers and staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Our bayside campsite was what we expected, and the park was more than we expected.

What a magical gift this was! Horses and foals everywhere. Kayaking to the marshes to hang with 2 bands as they grazed was a meditation beyond words. Funny little one armed crabs scurrying on the shore. Clumps of grass with muscles at the base, seabirds everywhere. A little deer like animal, sunsets, kids and adults jigging for crabs and raking for clams while walking in shallow calm waters. Fantastic pony patrol people and camp hosts. Flat perfect campsites. Either Bayside or oceanside spots were super. It was a childhood dream come true!

make sure you have some type of shade for sure! the toilets were cleaned every day, which was nice. the smell still wasnt that great though, but it was 90 every day so i guess that cant be helped. the cool showers were a lifesaver! mosquitoes werent too bad until it rained then they were out with a vengeance! most people adhered to the quiet hours, but if i had known, i would have taken a site in the area where no generators were allowed. i like peace and quiet. the beach was amazing! ponies were everywhere.

Campsites are spaced out for the most part. The only major negative is that the grass within the sites and along roads are long and not mowed. This means the ticks were everywhere! Weve never seen so many lone star ticks. Beware!!
good weather, quiet, relaxing, what else could you ask for.
Some Coverage

My campsite was at the Bayside loop A and it can accommodate a number of people if needed. Keep in mind there’s no shade here and RVs are allowed, thus, you’ll hear noisy generators after 6am until 10pm. Loop B would have been a better choice, if there’s open sites. Picnic table was big and the warning about the ponies was so in point. However, need to add raccoons to that warning. The only downside was it was too short (only 2 nights) and it rained the night before of checked out day so I packed up everything because I didn’t want to pack in the rain and wet gear. I slept in my SUV and the next day went to walk the marsh nature trail.
Walking at the beach is pleasurable. Everything is pretty much walkable. Even at Bayside, listening/falling asleep to the sounds of waves crashing to shore was great.
Excellent

Excellent paved camping sites that are spaced far enough apart that you have separation from other campers.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Assateague. Multiple daily visits by resident ponies to the campground (Bayside) were a highlight. Nice kayaking with protected water and abundant wildlife nearby. Short walk to beach for early morning sunrise and to the bay side for sunsets were great. Inner loop of A had a bit of communal campground feel so look for outer spot if privacy is important.

Very nice beaches! Campsite spots are spacious. Wild horses wondered through our site in the evening. If camping in summer months- bring lots of bug repellent!

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
