Loved just about everything about Assateague. Really enjoyed the beach, the horses and Chincoteague too.

Despite the reduction in Federal Funding for the National Parks, all Rangers,Staff and volunteers were GREAT and always helpful with any ?s or concerns. Spend time in the whole Park!! There are trails, bike paths, wonderful beaches on the ocean and bay.. the Visitor Center is very informative about the history and changes of the island, as well as in formation regarding the horses and other wildlife land and sea. Enjoy a very special place that is not commercialized simply Nature to be enjoyed. Camp if you can or go to the beach @ sunrise and enjoy the sounds and sights . Slow down and try to be in the moment. Unfortunately there were No Lifegaurds this year (funding cuts?)

If you love the beach, wildlife, especially the ponies and incredible sunsets, give it a try. Heed the bug warnings on the website If you love ice cream, dont miss the Island Creamery in Berlin. Original flavors, and homemade. I do think the administration should look at generator hours. They are the same as quiet hours. No generation between 10 pm and 6 am. We were next to someone who started shortly after 6 am and continued off and on through out the day. It really disrupts the beauty of the place. There is a no generation loop on the bay side but not on the seaside and we like the seaside. So, I would ask administrators to review hours set by other national parks which are slightly more limiting for generator hours.

You must respect the horses! If children are with you they must be supervised.

Lets keep this fabulous campground a secret. I want it all to myself! Beautiful and wild. Wonderful place to bike, bird watch, stargaze, and play on beach. Clean and well maintained. So serene!

Assateague Island National Seashore is always a delight. Although it was foggy and coolpartof the time, there were a couple days warm enough for sitting on the beach. There are three nice trails and a nice newish Visitor Center. The wild horses are fun, and there's other wildlife and usually some good birding. Lot's of great seafood tp enjoy.

We always enjoy our visit. We had a nice site. The people who had our site before us were still there & didn't get out until 12. I thought the camp hosts were supposed to make sure they left by 11am
@KerrY370 · Camped on Sep 24, 2021 at Campsite #22
The campground host kept entering my campsige and rudely announcing time to leave was 11am, every 15 minutes, starting at 9 am. I've been camping befe for 42 years. He had no reason to do this. My son's and daughter in-law were visiting from Rhode Island for the day and highly annoyed. It was a horrible experience 😪

Bring your own toilet paper as the bathroom had none for four days. The bathrooms were not cleaned the whole week I was there & the outdoor showers had more sand in them than on the beach. The walkway going to the beach was covered in sand making it difficult to cross the dune. This is my 12th year vacationing there & this year was the dirtiest by far. Bring bug spray!!!

Assateague island is one of our favorite places to camp. Its a great way to enjoy the beach and camping the same time while avoiding some crowds. However, this was our first time at the national park. Having stayed at both national and state parks on the island, we have to say that we prefer the state campground. The national park bathrooms on oceanside only have cold water showers and outhouses with no lights. Fine for a short stay but not exactly the most sanitary conditions for Covid. The bathrooms at the state park are full service and also act as temporary shelter in inclimate weather. Additionally i found that some campsites were much better the others. Our site was uneven and had a lot ditches that collected water resulting in us camping in a mosquito bog. Other sites further down the loop were much drier and didnt have as many bugs. Also the traffic from bridge to the campground is pretty horrible. Takes about 30-40 mins to get through the gates. Might have just been a popular weekend but better traffic flow for campers vs day visitors would help. Despite the issues we had this trip, we still enjoyed ourselves. However, next time we'll stay at the state park instead.
