Great site nice spot to put tent that is sheltered. However there is a walking path directly though the site so not so private. Close to the beach but a bit sheltered by dunes.

Assateague National Seashore is a one of a kind experience, especially on the mid Atlantic coast. Our site wasn't exactly on the beach, but we could see the water and listen to the waves... went for an excellent stargazing walk at night and watched the sunrise over the ocean in the morning, without really seeing any other people. Outdoor bathrooms were kept clean, cold showers were cold but good. Excellent time.

W enjoyed how wild and remote it was, but a short drive to restaurants. Everyone told us the bugs would be bad but instead it was very windy and no bugs at all. Make sure you check out the whole island. The bay side is quite different from the ocean. Great breakfast available on site at the 5 tides!

I was so excited to take my daughter camping at Assateague, but it was the worst camping experience we have ever had. The bugs were outrageous (obviously nothing anyone can do about that), but then the walk-in campsites were horrible. Ours wasn't clearly labeled from the path, people from other campsites walked all through it because I'm sure they didn't know how to get to their campsites. It already isn't great to have to walk all of your stuff into a campsite (lesson learned for any other camping trip we take), but the fact that the boardwalk wasn't clear of sand made it so much worse.

Camping on the beach is a very special experience. Beautifully maintained sites with picnic tables and fire rings as well as bathrooms and outdoor showers.

I thought this would be a good place to take dark sky photographs of the Perseids. Instead, the beach was covered with vehicles cruising with extremely high-powered headlights that ruined every single photo I tried to take. Extremely disappointed that this place is advertised for having such dark skies. Dark skies are worthless if you have trucks with headlights all over the place. Even a mile or two away, they're inevitably pointing directly at you up the beach, with no obstruction, and the relatively high humidity reflects so much of that light. I was extremely disappointed.

Love the walk in Oceanside campsites in the dunes. Be sure to pack all your food away to protect the horses. Breezes kept any bugs away. Ocean was cool and refreshing. This is a great destination!

Our first time camping and we decided to do it on a full moon night in Assateague. One of the most beautiful experiences. Be very careful with the horses though. On the morning of check out, 4 horses showed up while we were sitting down and having breakfast. We were careful about leaving things out for them to easily reach but they must of smelled the bacon from miles away and nearly left us without breakfast!

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
