We were so pleasantly surprised at the campsite and the interactions with horses! What an amazing campsite, we will be visiting again and again!

This camp site is the furthest away from parking, but also the closest to the beach so it has its pros and cons. Campsite is out in the open, right next to the beach access so there is a decent amount of foot traffic and it is completely exposed (no dunes or anything to pitch next to). However, if you don't plan to spend much time at your site, it is fine (i spent most of my time on the beach). I would not do the walk-in site again, it is just too much to schlep all your gear back and forth across the sand in the hot sun. There is zero shade on this island - BRING SHADE! And obviously bug spray. Facilities were nice. I went at the hottest time of year and would not recommend, as again there is no shade on this island and nowhere to take a rest from the sun if you are camping. Next time I will choose a drive-in site.

Extraordinary experience. I wish I had stayed longer. Be sure to bring beach stakes if you're on the sand. And stay on the beach!

Clean, well maintained campsites. Restrooms were clean. Walkin Campsites are a few hundred feet from the parking so bring your carts that can be pulled across soft sand. Rangers regularly go around and are visible. Watch out for the group of horses that toam at breakfast and dinner

Amazing views, showers were amazing and refreshing, clean beaches but too many people getting close to the horses. They should be fined as it is dangerous for them to get so close. But overall my favorite place in the East!

Wonderful experience and woke up to ponies running through our campsite! Tried our hand at fishing and enjoyed smores at the fire pit. My little one played in the sand for hours. It was great!

We love Assateague! The beach is pristine, and it's wonderful to be so close to wildlife and nature, with little light pollution. The bathrooms were also spotless. I appreciate all the care you put into protecting this space. Kudos to the Natl Park Service!

Camping steps from the seashore -- this island is magic. We have been camping here for 8 years with our young kids and all of us feel at home between the dunes. The bayside can be a nice retreat from the wind and waves while the coast is brutally beautiful. Yes, the flies can be intense and, depending on when you visit, the mosquitoes may carry you away. Yet, it is SO WORTH IT!

It was a great experience. The best part - you can make a fire at night right on the beach. Thank you guys for everything you do. Looking forward to camp there this upcoming summer.

The beach is clean and the bathrooms are adequate and close to the camping sites. The fire pit is large and rounded. If your purpose is to see the horses, you will not be disappointed! Many of them come right through your campgrounds searching for food both morning and night! Be sure to bring a secure cooler and/or keep anything that smells delicious, including rubbish, in your car. It does get damp overnight, so don't leave any towels or bathing suits out to dry after it gets dark--because they won't be dry in the morning! Highly recommend.
