Beach was clean, horses were around often, and if you follow the park rules you should be able to have a great time. We protected our food as recommended by the park and had an enjoyable and safe time when the horses wandered through. We saw first hand what happened to those that didn’t take the precautions. Both of our neighbors endangered the beautiful wild horses by not securing their sites. Not to mention lost most of their dry goods in the process.

We did a walk in this time, our third time there, and we love being on the beach. The kids are easily entertained playing in the sand or flying a kite. Really relaxing and magical place.

Beautiful beach, quiet campground and we got to see the wild horses! We will definitely be back!

I had high expectations on seeing the ponies and enjoying the oceanview. My expectations were immediately met and exceeded pulling into the campground where three beautiful ponies met us at the entrance and I felt like we were in a far away land. The campsite we reserved was large and we had lots of room for our big tent as well as our canopy. We listened to the reviews and brought large screw stakes for the tent and canopy and we're so glad we did with the strong wind constantly blowing. We had zero bugs the entire 5 days we were there, and saw cool wildlife on the beach including a horseshoe crab and dolphins. We came home with lots of beautiful shells and a nice suntan. We hiked the trails, including Life in the Dunes, Life in the Woods and Life in the Marsh, all very neat hikes with cool things to see. We saw ponies in the marshes as well as in the parking lots scattered throughout the island. We took a drive everyday around the loops and each day we saw ponies, I recommend taking a ride thru periodically at least to see what's out there. We even saw a band of ponies that included a baby filly right in the parking lot near the fee booth. There was no shortage of ponies everywhere, they even made thier way into our campsite on our last morning and the site next door the night before. When they say lock up your food, the ponies will try to get it, it's no joke, they will succeed in getting anything left out, they are not easily deterred or frightened away. But it was thrilling to have them come so close to the tent and our picnic table. The only downside was that campfire wood was not sold yet on the island, so we had to come prepared with it upon arrival. We lugged the wood as well as our camping gear (we had lots of stuff) in a rugged wagon with big beach tires, I highly recommend bringing one if you are camping in an ocean walk in site as the hike in is likely uphill in the sand. It was all a wonderful experience for our family and cannot wait to come again.
