We stayed in one of the walk-in loops. Lots of work getting everything to our site (bring a beach wagon to help haul your gear!) but it was worth it. It was quiet, peaceful right next to the ocean. Bathrooms were pit toilets but they were well maintained and clean. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Everything was as expectedgood wind will keep the bugs away on the beach. Horses will try to take your food right off your plateif you see them approach store all food away where it cannot be reached by them. Do not leave anything out overnight that you do not want coated in a sea mist in the morning.

Tropical storm at night. Had to go to car at 12:00am. The next morning a lot of people came to ask if we survived. LOL.

Beautiful beaches, bathrooms cleaned daily, friendly volunteers and rangers. Ghost crabs galore, wild horses sighted often, plenty of bird watching, hiking, and relaxing. Kids (7&5) had a blast.

You can easily have the best of both worlds with visiting ocean city which is only 15 minutes away while camping on the island. I wouldn't recommend going to Chincoteague Island though because it's over an hour away even though there's better nature hikes and scenic routes.

It was an experience everyone who loves to camp should do! Something for everyone from swimming, surfing, hiking, nature watching to just plain sit back and relax. Can't wait to do it again.
