We had an amazing 3 days at Assateague. Site 83 is perfectly located on the sand, with some protection from the winds and very close to the restrooms and showers. When they are cleaning the porta potty's it can smell for a 30 minutes or so, but it fades quickly. There is a boardwalk to take you up to the camp site, so only carrying stuff for about 30 feet. The picnic table is big and has storage under with a slide lock it to keep coolers and food safe from the horses. The horses came by our site 2 of the 2 nights. Be sure to bring a good flashlight as the brown horses are hard to see at night and we passed one within a few feet without even realizing it until we turned around to go back as we did see another horse that had white on it. Get there at least an hour before sunset as we got there late and were setting a tent up in the dark and it was super windy -not ideal. We arrived to find someone on at our campsite, but they were leaving the next day. Not really sure what happened there, but it was fine. We had minimal flies even though we had westerly winds the one day. The water had a lot of shells the one days so water shows aren't the worst idea. The next day it was all sand. We had a great time and I would highly recommend. Amazing sunsets and sunrises. We will definitely be back!

Clean site and lots of space for set up! Only downside is its right downwind of the chemical toilets which made it hard to hang out on site due to the smell.

I try to get to Assateague every year. I call it my ocean front time share! People in the visitor center super friendly. Portapotty clean. Campsite clean. Staff very friendly. Looking forward to next year.

A lovely weekend as always, even with the storm. One of my favorite camping places around.

Beach and beach campsite is beautiful and clean. Bathrooms seem to be cleaned and sterilized daily - no smell, and very accessible! We didn't realize we'd have a picnic table with benches and a cubby as part of our site and that was really great to have.

We didn't know that in addition to horses roaming around searching for food at campsites at night, there would also be raccoons! So know that when you visit and take the guidance seriously about putting all your food in a hard-sided cooler or in your car.

Marvelous, as always. Been camping at Assateague for almost forty years and it's just what I need to end the summer right.
