Stayed for 3 nights by myself. I wish it could have been longer. Do your research and come prepared! This walk up site is all soft sand with a good size hill. You'll need a wagon with proper wheels to be able to transport your things. Beach camping is so magical if you know what to bring and secure your food from the wild horses. This is the only way I'll ever camp again. My site was perfect, right on the beach. I felt a little apprehensive camping alone at first but it was very safe amd had a blast. Neighbors were amazing. I didn't secure my tortillas fast enough from the horses. My neighbors ended up bringing me another pack. Walmart is 15 min away and lots of local stores to provide supplies.

This is one of the most special places I have ever been to! Wild ponies everywhere, amazing beach access. I recommend booking a camp site on the dune as close to the beach as possible because the breeze keeps the flies and mosquitos away. Otherwise, you will have to wear a LOT of bug spray. I also recommend bringing a pop up tent to go over your picnic table as it gets very hot during the day and it's useful to have some shade.

Amazing campground! Be aware that some sites are right on the beach and high winds can make for an interesting experience!

Site 80 has no table and no firepit. In the end, I could not use it because it was at the top of a dune, very windy and cold, and I did not even have a flat space to set my backpacking stove to make dinner. After 2 days of hiking the National Seashore (25 miles) this site was a severe disappointment.

Beautiful as always. This review is for the campsite and not the park. We were not able to use the picnic table during our stay because it was sitting on a slope. Even tho they ask not to move the tables, we tried to at least get it off the slope but it was too heavy. No privacy on this site but has enough space in between the others. Other campers will walk not around, but right through your belongings. Everything got wet over night with the condensation. It was a perfect night for stargazing, but the lights from the OSV were seen driving by constantly

Our stay was during opening weekend. It was a coooooold one. Come extra prepared, and even the "winter" months are enjoyable. The beaches are empty, so it's a great time for dogs.

We stayed in the walk-in sites on the beach. The site that we had was in the middle of several sites so our neighbors were really close. Our picnic table was buried in the sand making it unusable. We came prepared with a sun-shelter and a screen tent to eat in. We also brought a beach wagon to bring our items back and forth from the car. The bugs were absolutely out and biting. 100% deet didn't even do the trick. The wind was our only barrier against the bugs. The pit toilets were really smelly so be prepared for that. The showers are cold but large enough to move around comfortably. The nice thing is that the chain pulls down so you don't have to hold it the entire time you shower. The horses were around and a wonderful attraction. The sky in the evening is amazing as you are able to see the milky way. You basically have the ocean a few hundred yards in front of you and everyone respects your space when you are at the waters edge giving you a "private" beach feeling. Renting a canoe/kyack is a must-do activity, as you can search out the horses in the marsh. Taking a day trip over to Chincoteague, VA, and taking a guided boat tour with Captain Barry BackBay Cruises is an absolute must! Worth every penny!

We had a wonderful camping spot and the addition of having items for sale on the island was fantastic.
