Fantastic place! Clean and easy to use facilities. I even saw a worker cleaning up the campground at one point who was very friendly and helpful with answering questions. I hope to return again soon!

The campsite #78 is in an area surrounded by bushes. The campsite itself sits in a little dipkind of like a shallow hole or depressionnestled between dunes and thick bushes. It adds to the sense of seclusion and privacy, but theres not a lot of ventilation and it also traps heat and bugs like crazy. That would be a good thing if youre camping in the colder months (not the bug part), but in the hot summer, it feels about 10 degrees hotter in this campsite specifically. Again, all of the flies get trapped in thereand raccoons love that spot. If youre reserving this campsite, make sure all your food and trash are secured. The horses didnt bother us at all. We stayed for a week, and not once did they enter the campsite. The fire pit is super rusted, so I suggest bringing something to place over the grill if you plan on cooking. Also, make sure to bring a wagon with sand wheels, since its a bit of a walk through a sandy area. One big plus: it stormed while we were there, and a lot of the tents out in the open area either got flooded or blown awaybut because we were protected by the bushes, the storm didnt bother us at all.Important tip: the bugs are insane in this campsite #78. More than the rest of park. If youre camping here, especially during summer, I highly recommend bringing a bug zapper to hang up, fly sticky traps, or even better, a screen house to eat and relax in without being swarmed. Also, the ticks were no joke. Definitely spray your gear and clothes with permethrin ahead of time. I know that should be done regardless of where you camp, but something about this sitemaybe the higher concentration of raccoons?made the tick situation feel especially intense.

Amazing location. Good facilities. Not a whole lot to do other than the beach and the horses but we keep coming back. Good access to Ocean City.

Our 8th camping trip to Assateague Island National Seashore. This trip was notable because we tried a new camping spot AND we went at a different time of year (Sept vs. June). We had a wonderful time. It was Labor Day Weekend and all of the ponies were out to greet us upon our arrival. Spot 78 was a treat in that it is closer to the ocean than Spot 86, yet still had some privacy with shrubbery and brush. We think that a fox may have lived in that spot too and were treated to their nightly visits. Assateague is a haven for us to escape the 'hustle and bustle' of the DMV, to reconnect to nature, and to enjoy the brilliant sunrises and sunsets.

Refreshing experience as a first time camper. Beautiful sceneries, very nice people around, needless to say how exciting to see the wild horses and ponies roaming freely. We had 2 horses visiting us one night around our camp fire, just amazing... Although in April, night time gets chilly and air is damp, sleeping bag surface were damp each morning. All dries up during the day with the sun. Love the seashore, not crowded at all, many options for activities such as hiking, kayaking, biking, clamming, crabbing, or simply sunbathing. My friends were into clamming and they were so excited to be able to pick a full bucket of fresh mussels, not my thing though standing in chilly muddy water no matter what:) Overall, a very memorable trip and absolutely recommend it. I heard most Iquitos are brutal in summer, but in April, no issue.
