Be ready to do a lot of carrying if you are camping on the beach. But its worth it!

We had an excellent time and my children (11 & 13) loved their experience. The horses were everywhere so do leave food inside the car as some people werent doing that and got ambushed by the horses! So funny but they lost all their food. Being directly by the beach is amazing. Site was clean and everyone kind and respectful. Definitely a must for unforgettable memories. Nighttime brings out the mosquitoes so socks, long sleeves and pants a must with some bug repellent a must. The wind can and will pickup so have everything nice and sturdy.

We found Assateague Island to be clean, quiet and relaxing. It provided a space for us to relax and rejuvenate our mind, body and soul. We will be back

What an incredible experience to wake up with the horses, really! At 5:30am three horses came poking around our site on their way to the water. The oceanside sites are incredible. Though many do not have direct views of the water, you can still hear it for sure. The walk from the car is a little bit of work, with the sand, so consider packing lightly and/or be aware you’ll have stuff to haul (we didn’t think this through ourselves!). I am looking forward to coming back for sure.

Was absolutely beautiful. It was really nice having the beach to ourselves. Off season is definitely the time to go. Saw more horses than we did people on the first day. It was also a nice surprise to find that the park is pet friendly. Didn't realize it at the time but the next time we come down we will be bringing our dog with us! Definitely another bonus of the off season camping is the lack of insects. Cooler temperatures and mild and windy nights make for fantastic sleeping weather. We had a bit of rain in the evening after we set up our tent, but we were dry and comfortable. The Life of the Forest Trail is a really nice hike with a kid. Only disappointment was that a couple of the interpretive signs were weathered so they were rendered difficult to read. Other than that, we would highly recommend the camping here. Bathrooms were also super clean.
