A beautiful spot on a dune! Great sunrise & sunset views. We didn't have any pest issues (no issues with bugs & the horses kept to themselves) at the time we went. Not the easiest walk to the parking area on sand and around other campers, but well worth the effort. There are outdoor showers (with a lever on/off that you have to hold to use) and there isn't running water at the toilets.

Heated timed showers would be nice. Also, Canadian National Parks you have to buy a daily fire permit if you decided to have a fire at your campsite. The permit also gives you access to the campground wood pit, which is stocked with local timber. Has Assateague Island National Seashore researched the possibility of a similar process?? This would drastically decrease the amount of invasive species threating the park.

We love Assateague and we will be coming back every year coming back to camp in this beautiful national park for our summer getaway. The beach and the bay are a perfect combination to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Everything is well maintained.

I didn't like it when the park ranger drove right into my campsite while I was drinking my morning coffee and reading my Bible. Kind of ruined my morning. She berated me about chasing the horses out of my neighbor's campsite the night before. I think the park rangers should respect the personal boundaries of a rented campsite and leave the campers alone.

Weather was great, facilities were clean, and the campground was just as described.

I chose a camp site that you couldn't drive up to but was close enough to move all my gear by cart. Highly recommend big wheels to make rolling over the sand easy. Beware of the horses and racoons with your food. I was sitting at the camp fire and a horse knocked my cooler off the picnic table without hesitation. Next morning a colt came up to me as I was watching the sunrise and tried to grab my breakfast sandwich. Black flies were intense on day two so be sure to watch the wind and plan accordingly. Bug spray doesn't do anything and these little guys are the biting kind that are abundant and tenacious.
