Overall a decent experience, rating 4 stars more because of the activities in the area. Note, my fianc and I had a busy prior weekend and plans to travel out of state the following weekend, so we decided to only stay 1 of 2 nights heading home Saturday evening. We had site 13 which was very underwhelming as we pulled up. Very little tree coverage compared to the other sites. It was also right alongside the road that led to a public parking area. Only 1 car and some dirt bikers drove by around 7AM, but it was early in the season, Id imagine it has more traffic middle of summer. Sites 11 and 12 are basically right on top of each-other with 13 being a little over from them. Fortunately for us, neither 11 or 12 were occupied, so we didnt have to worry about it feeling overcrowded. If we stayed again, we would get a site further away from the road, on the south section of the campground closest to the creek.Very scenic drive with a secluded feeling. West Chicago creek flows in the distance adding a little peaceful noise. Definitely not my favorite campground but Id recommend it if you want a reason to hang out in Idaho Springs or hit some fishing spots such as Echo Lake.

My entire vacation was completely ruined. I traveled from California to Colorado only to find the site I booked two months in advance was double booked. Someone was already camping there. Of course, there was no camp host anywhere to be found. There were no other camp sites available. It was a completely horrible experience.I had 2 twelve year old kids with me. This was supposed to be part of their birthday present. This will make a memorable experience for them for sure,I did get the money I paid for the reservation back. So what!!!Thank you for nothing! Worst experience Ive had with a reservation.

Return camp after a few years. Nice smaller clean campground near a trailhead. Quiet surroundings and easy access to the creek nearby. With the quiet nights you can hear the creek at night along with clear nights for star gazing. Restrooms are kept clean along with the sites. We stayed at site 13 at the end of the campground which has plenty of room to set up tents. Short 1520-minute drive outside of Idaho Springs.

Beautiful site. High elevation; cold at night! Trailhead next door convenient for great hiking. Dirt road is in excellent condition. No potable water, but plentiful streams if you have a filter. Convenient to all trails in the Mt Evans wilderness.

Overall great location. Was quiet, choose to creek also but only drawbacks, no obvious or easily accessible fishing and there seemed to be a ton of bees. Basically a ton like in mosquitos type numbers.

Camp host Karen was wonderful! Bathrooms were clean and our sites were too. Nice hikes in the area, and the creek was a nice bonus:) Thank you Karen!

Lovely spot to camp - sleeping in a grove of aspen with the sounds of creek to lull you to sleep. We brought our toddler, grade schooler and teen and all had a swell time hiking the nearby poetically named “Hell’s Hole” trail ... swam in the creek (brr!), enjoyed beautiful scenery, got kids and ourselves a break from technology.

Even with the unfortunate fire ban precluding camp fire, we had a great time at this well managed camp site. Appreciated the extra attention given to the vault toilet bathrooms, as that’s the most stressful part of camping during Covid era. Other campers were considerate and largely seemed to wear masks into bathrooms too.
