I love this campground. Very, very clean....nice spaces. Each has its own bear box so you don't have to share. Kayaking on Brainard is so enjoyable. There isn't a bad space in the place, as far as I can tell.

Very clean site. Quiet at night

Only giving 4/5 stars not because of the campground, but the people who book this place out 6 months in advance and then dont show up for their reservation. We found a single Sunday night cancellation and I took off work to camp thru Monday. The entire place was booked all weekend online, but there were 7 completely empty / unused spots while we were there. Seems people just book a spot right away and dont bother to cancel when theyre not going to use it.

Restrooms are toxic with Oder eaters. I came here to be in the fresh air, not to be poisoned by chemicals in the bathroom. There are good reasons to require parking permits however, when there are a handful of cars in the parking lot, most spots open and I have paid for camping, to be threatened with the sheriff and a citation if I drive up to the trailhead seems like no consideration for the mobility impaired and I cant buy a parking permit when Im here. We dont need more things online; there needs to be a way to do things on site so that we can be in the natural world. Theyre overstaffed and just trying to charge more money The national Forest have been taken over by private companies making way too much money, obsessed with their rules, and no consideration or hospitality for the public.I came up here for peace and quiet and now Im having to listen to peoples generators. There doesnt seem to be any rules about turning those off.The Reservation system is not working 1/3 to a half of the campground is empty with no-shows. Theres no reward or canceling or penalty for no shows. Peoples lack of respect is shown by food left in the fire ring. The crows come to clean up their mess.

Great campsite, with lots of privacy and afternoon shade, plus close enough to the bathroom, but not too close. It's a straight shot down the road to the lake. Could easily roll a kayak to the lake without having to drive over. The Moose loop has more trees, but the other loop is starting to get some small trees growing back since the blow down. Very well maintained sites in both loops, with level parking and big tent pads. Each site also has a big bear box. Parking at the trailheads is not included with camping, so be sure to get a parking permit if you want to drive to the trailheads. Otherwise it's 1.17 miles to Mitchell parking area, so not bad, and there's a very nice walking trail, so you don't have to walk on the road.

I didnt get to go and this reservation system was showing me other future dates and wouldnt let me switch mine. I tried about 20 different times.

Unfortunately my campsite didnt have the first tree. I wasnt allowed to use any of the other picnic areas in the park. The camp hosts were wonderful!! The trails were wonderful. Probably some of the best Ive done

Everything was very nice, facilities super clean, people very friendly

The hosts were very rude and tried to make us leave an hour before our reservation ended. The cost of firewood was ridiculous, and the extra 2nd car fee makes no sense.

Outstanding campground. Gorgeous like no other, and so much to do. Truly wonderful hosts that are on top of their job. The campsite was clean and raked when we arrived. The hosts were welcoming and very responsive to our needs and helpful. Site 37 is gorgeous, so is site 35. It gets cold at night, so pack warm. Get your mosquito repellant, it gets very buggy. All in all, we will be back. There are lakes to fish in and kayak. So many gorgeous trails to hike - it's a wonderland. Big thank you to the hosts for addressing our needs and asking those running generators to be quiet after 10 pm.

The Elk loop is meadow like and has wonderful views. Site 6 is across from the camp host and fairly close to the pit toilet. The toilet is well maintained and not smelly. Note, if you plan to go to other parking areas you will need to get a timed pass. Overall excellent experience.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the campground, gorgeous and well-kept. Issues arose with check out time - Rec.Gov says 12pm, but camp hosts came around about 11am and were pushing us to leave, stating that we were supposed to be out at 11am. Not sure which one is accurate, but heads up. Additionally - Pawnee Campground DOES NOT INCLUDE parking for any of the lots - pretty annoying/frustrating when your group isnt prepped for that. Each person checking passes did not even explain the why but instead got defensive/passive aggressive when we were confused. All and all, it means if you are planning on hiking from any of the other trail heads (Mitchell, Long Lake, etc.) you will need to plan on walking there. Same goes for Brainard Lake, if youre going to paddle board or anything, plan on lugging that thing up to the lake by foot. Last note: We did finally find out that the upper trailhead roads are CLOSED until July 1st, so there was no way for us to even get a pass to hike up there. Hope this helps someone else have a more prepped and better experience than us.

Absolutely loved our weekend at Pawnee. The sites are beautiful, the bathrooms are super clean and the camp hosts are wonderful and very helpful. Lots to do in the park too.

Pawnee is a truly amazing campground with fabulous wilderness hiking right outside your "door". Unfortunately this time the Forest Service decided to build a new trail right behind our campsite while we were camping there. They were using chain saws, a small front loader, and a large crew playing music and talking loudly. The noise and fumes were horrible. It was truly distressing to be run out of our campsite. The campground had only opened for the season less than two weeks prior. It would have been easy for the Forest Service to have scheduled the trail creation prior to the opening of the campsite. Everyone at the nearby campsites were completely dumbfounded by the profoundly poor planning by the Forest Service and they all left early or found someplace to go while the work was ongoing. Normally this spot is the epitome of tranquility in the forest. I'm sure it will be again when others visit in the future. But for this one time, I wish I could get a refund.

Pawnee Campground is a nice recreational area and camping area. High elevation (10,300) for flat landers! We stay in the Walk In sites and prefer those over the RV sites. It is quiet, not crowded, sites are nicely dispersed and the river is close by. It's an easy 10 minute walk over to Brainard Lake.
@DominiqueC74DF · Camped on Sep 3, 2024 at Campsite #20
I had a great time here, the campground and campsite were very well maintained and kept, and the bathrooms were very clean for what they are! It seems very popular with RV campers so be prepared for generator noise (which I heard) but luckily the forest we're in helps to dampen the noise.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
