Our National Forest Campgrounds are going to the dogs!I believe we all love enjoying camping in nature where you can experience the beauty and silence of the great outdoors. There was a time when it was so pleasant to go camping at one of your favorite National Forest campgrounds. Well, that is no longer the case. The National Forest campgrounds are not quiet anymore! Our public campgrounds are equivalent to camping in dog parks. Nowadays, you can rarely stroll through a campground without an outburst from multiple barking dogs. The barking isn't limited to daytime hours. They are also frequent violators of campground quiet hours. This isn't a dog problem as much as it is a people problem.

The campground was in excellent condition. The "hosts" were all cordial and polite. The one criticism is in regard to the water hose at the dump station. The "non-potable" hose at the dump, had no hose bib on it. Therefore, we could not connect our hose to use our black tank flush. The other hose to fill fresh water had VERY low pressure and took a very long time to fill our fresh water tank.

Campground is always clean and well maintained thanks to the hard working work campers! Check in is efficient and easy. Love this campground!

Canyon Point is our favorite getaway in the rim area! Great sites, friendly staff, clean facilities, and right in the middle of local lake and hiking options as well as quick drives to local food.

This is one of the few FS Campgrounds around that has a number of sites with electric hookups for RV's. Also has a large tenting/RV section where you can use your generator if you wish. Good sized dump station and potable water just beyond main entrance. Vault type toilets throughout the CG, and restrooms/showers close to main entrance. Showers always a plus. Abundant hiking/biking opportunities, and 3 nearby lakes for fishing, swimming, picnicking, and hiking. Summer days are very comfortable, usually in the low to mid 80's, but nights can cool off into the 40-50's as you are at 7000'+ in elevation, so jackets and an extra blanket would be handy. Sites are all well spaced, paved, with fire ring and picnic table, some with standing bar-b-q's. All sites well treed, mostly ponderosa pine. WiFi reception very decent, we had 4 bars on Verizon. The CG is very close for gas, motel, and groceries/supplies in mom/pop type stores should you forget anything. This park is very popular because of its location, approx. 34 miles to Payson, Az., and 13 miles to Heber, Az., so reservations are recommended. The CG usually starts closing for the winter early to mid October depending on the weather. You can expect afternoon thunder showers during the monsoon season, usually short lived and refreshing. This CG is children and pet friendly, and still remains relatively quiet because of its size and site spacing. I'd rate this CG at a 9+, one of natures finest.
