There were only 8 sites taken on a beautiful Friday evening in February at this campground. Reservations can be made, but seemed unnecessary. Lots of sites could accommodate large rigs, although the very upper loop had somewhat of a tight turn. Best to park down by the entrance and walk to scout for your site. Easy access from I-5. You are able to see the highway in some of the lower loop sites, but hardly hear it and you will not be able to see or hear it from most sites in the upper loop. Most sites are not exactly level, but not bad. If you have a slide, the pullouts are almost not wide enough, and you might feel your slide is sticking out into the road.

The dump station is located before the entrance to the campground. The campground entrance is actually the 3rd driveway.

Very friendly camphost, very clean bathrooms, very clean campsites.

Don't let the lake be the reason you come here, unless you are a boater. Walk-ins are not allowed and neither is swimming.

Too bad there are not any hiking or biking trails in or around the campground.

Other than staff not enforcing quiet hours, and letting people drink alcohol, smoke cannabis, and listen to loud music past quiet hours, they are very helpful in providing directions, options, and sales of firewood. Our campsite in 7x was either too hot or too windy where staked shade structures blew over and umbrellas broke. Other than perhaps planting more trees, I suppose there's not much they can do about the shade nor wind. So many campsites are barren and exposed all day long. At least we got shade at dawn and later afternoon. The bugs are pesky and likely to bite when the wind dies down. The bush leaves when dried get very sharp, so be careful when wearing flip flops. Last gripe is the spigot must be actively held to get water which requires two people if you have lots of cleaning to do or want to fetch water.

If you want to fish on the lake, you can bring your boat or rent one. You can fish other locations, but Vaquero Beach does not allow. Vaquero Beach is very gravelly and has many picnic semi-shaded structures that fill up quickly on weekends. There are other random shade under shrub trees, but very primitive. Many people bring their own shade structure because during summer, the heat is brutal.

There's often many openings here because there are definitely better places to camp in terms of campsites, but if you're desparate, this is an option.
