Our stay at Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground was an overnight, but the grounds were worthy of a longer stay. Our site was #33, in the Catoma Loop, very level. They all seemed level. Everything in the FHU worked. The site was spacious and beautiful, overlooking the lake or stream, surrounded by trees with Spanish moss. None of the sites gave campers access to the water, from what I saw. Our site was fairly close to the bath house. The showers looked clean, though older, as did the restrooms. Nearby was a nice playground for children. There were lots of walkers and runners in the morning. The staff was welcoming and helpful at check-in. We would stay there again, and plan a longer visit.

We like this park; it is clean and spacious. But the cell phone signer sucks. We barely get 1 bar on and off from AT&T. I wondered if the park can work with the cell phone companies to enhance the signs. It is critical to have a reliable cell service especially during tornadoes seasons.

Went to Montgomery for a conference and decided to camp at Gunter Hill. We stayed in site 33. Very large site and well spaced out. Only issue was there was no light outside the shower side of the bathhouse and no soap in the mens restroom. We even stopped and told the person at the entrance about it. We were there for 8 days, so that is my main complaint. Cellular data was iffy with Verizon. Will go back.

We stayed at Gunter Hill in site 33 on the Catoma loop. The sight had full hookups and was spacious with plenty of room between sights. The shower house was conveniently located across the road and was warm and maintained. We stayed at the Gunter Hill in January and enjoyed the seclusion and peacefulness of the campground of the campground. We enjoyed biking around the campground and spent one day exploring Montgomery. The area is rich in history, our itinerary included: the Oakwood Annex Cemetery to see the Hank Williams grave site, the Rosa Parks Bus Stop, the Alabama State Capitol, the First White House of the Confederacy, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the Legacy Museum.

Overall, the campground is very nice, clean and has very, very deep sites, many of which are close to the water's edge. Bath/shower facilities were clean ad convenient. Our main issue was the late check-in time. If check in is after 4 o'clock and sunset in the fall is 4:50, it provides only a very small window for check in during daylight hours. Navigating the campground, locating your site, and particularly backing in and setting up camp becomes extremely difficult when it's pitch black outside. A late checkout time of 3pm is good for outgoing campers, but makes for a stressful check in and setup for incoming campers, particularly if you have never visited before. Our site was clean, but we couldn't determine this until the next morning, after the sun came up. We would suggest an earlier check-in to make the overall experience better.

Nice campground. Lots of space between spaces. Clean bathrooms. Easy access to Montgomery. Must go to Legacy Museum. Plan to spend at least a day there.

Beautiful campground very close to Montgomery AL. Toured a cute town nearby called Lounseboro (sp), which was quite nice. Took in some Selma- Mont. history.
We had a full hookup on a very large lot, beautiful shade on a slight cliff above the river.
We’d certainly go there again! It was October and bugs were minimal, BTW!

Weekday experience.
As many of us know COE parks on weekdays are clean and quiet. That is our experience at Gunter Hill last week. We've stayed there 4 earlier times and will again. We found our best site yet. Level and clean. So level we did not have to unhook our Rockwood Mini Lite to spend the night. Campground host was welcoming and happy. A good way to end a long travel day.

This was our first visit to this park, it will not be our last. we stayed at site 33 in the updated section of campground, this park has spacious sites with full hook ups, all on level cement pads. Riding our bikes through the park we found all the sites desirable. The camp host were pleasant, the facilities were clean. We stayed in a 36' fifth wheel, the site was so deep we were set up well off the road which lent a sense of privacy. Gunter Hill will definately be on our favorites list. It would be a plus if a dog park was added, there is ample room for one and so many people travel with their pets, it would make their stay so much more enjoyable.
