I visit Acadia on a yearly basis and always stay at Blackwoods Campground. The location is convenient and the shuttle is located conveniently. The restrooms are always clean and everyone works together to keep the location clean. They have huge trash cans located near the restrooms and an area to clean your dishes. Laying in a hammock (hopefully your location offers an area) is so peaceful and I've spent a day at the campsite just relaxing. Everyone has been great about noise hours and if it is not cloudy you can get some great sights of stars. Depending what side you stay on, you can be pretty close to the path to ocean views. Really you can access from either side but one requires more walking or you can drive and park by the office. I recommend bringing some large tarps (for rain for extra protection for your tent or shade if your campsite does not offer much shade) and rope to attach to trees. You can fine bundle of wood sold by local residents nearby by you may need an small axe/hatchet to make kindling if you don't find any and a lighter. Bar Harbor is close by for great food options. Don't forget to schedule a ticket for Cadillac Mountain sunrise/sunset or visit in general. You can also hike from Blackwoods campground to Cadillac Mountain. I've heard folks complete it in 1.5+ hours so arrange if you want to hike up before the sunrise. I've visited with my dogs before they cross the rainbow bridge and recently (2022) with my cat. I love how pet friendly the location is and my cat did great at the campsite. Blackwoods also offers programs (star gazing and movies, etc.) and when you enter the campsite you will have a board to provide all information (high/low tide, sunsrise/sunset info, close trails, etc). Remember to carry/bring drinking water with you. We usually purchase a few gallons and bring with us. Great to refill water bottles and use at the campsite. Enjoy your time!

Nice campsite and very convenient to have the park buses drop off right at the entrance. Also, it was nice having my dog be able to camp with me and also ride the buses. A big bonus is that the trail head for the Cadillac Mountain trail is walking distance. There is a pay shower house a 5 minute drive away as well since showers are not offered within the campground proper.
