The Island Explorer bus system made Blackwoods an accessible location to see the park.

It is a quiet campsite. We went here in June. Restrooms are modern and clean. Daytime temperatures are cool so no worries about too many bugs in June. Easy to get anything needed from bar harbor. Try to keep yourself warm as it can get very cold (say 50F) in midnights.

I stayed in the B-Loop right near a restroom which was a great setup. The national park ranger made a mistake about my camp site and consequently I had a scare when I came back to campground and people were in "my" spot. That was the worst part of the experience.I made my plans last minute thinking I could always find space at a campground. I was able to make my 10-day trip to Acadia work that way, but it was NOT smooth. I had to move from spot to spot for most of time there. I only stayed in Blackwoods for 1 night because these reservations are very competitive. Unfortunately, the NPS does not leave any sites as 1st come for 1st served which I found unfortunate. I understand it, but I just found it unfortunate. However, Lamoine State park (about 30-40 minutes from the island), does have about 5 spots they manage in this way. And once you stay your first night on the site, you can continue to stay there from night to night as long as you're interested. I really appreciated this system given my circumstances, and it's a shame I couldn't find anything like it on the island itself. Given I needed to have internet access to make reservations from day to day, having no WiFi (which was true at Blackwoods) was a tough problem. So, the moral of my story is have all your reservations made before you go to Acadia, so you can enjoy that the island has very spotty WiFi service.

I was very impressed with how well managed this camp site is. The fact that entry is monitored by on site staff also gave me a great feeling of security. The camp site is right in the park and everything is easily accessible.

Acadia is great and so is Blackwoods campground. Every site is very close to a bathroom and the bathrooms have always been very clean and well maintained. Never have I had a problem with other campers being over-the-top obnoxious (late at night). The staff is very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The sites are spacious enough and offer a decent amount of privacy. The surplus parking availability has always made my stays much easier. There are several stations to fill-up with potable water. And my favorite part is the night sky which is gorgeous. PLUS, cant beat having the trailhead to Cadillac South directly leading into/from the camp!

We loved the peacefulness of the backwoods. No cell service, people chatting, fires crackling, a clean and close bathroom, bicycle loops galore, it was just so therapeutic! We hiked many of the hikes that came right out of the park as well as hopped on the free shuttle service to other hikes. Beehive was scary, but fun and the views from other hikes were unbeatable. Wish I could remember the names of all of them!
