Bring a tarp for the ground, for underneath the tentMight wanna bring an extra tarp (2 tarps) for over your tent (in case it rains and your tent is no longer waterproof, this is unfortunately what happened to us!) Luckily my boyfriend packed that extra tarp so we were all set :)

Blackwoods Campground is one of my favorites, depending on the site one is in and if neighbors are respectful, or noisy and inconsiderate of their fellow campers. Since there seems to be no ranger on duty after 8PM, the campground is unsupervised, and at times this can result in loud drunken parties well into the wee hours, a bad and potentially dangerous situation. Acadia National Park's many attractions are within either a walk or a summer bus ride (or two) away from the campground. We love not using our car while camping at Blackwoods; it takes some planning, but hikers are able to climb Cadillac Mountain right from either A or B loop, or take the bus into Sieur de Mont to climb Dorr, or Champlain, or to walk the several trails right there. Or take the bus straight into the Village Green where most of the summer busses meet; one can take a bus almost anywhere on the Island from the beautiful Village Green. Blackwoods is a basic campground, no frills, only cold water toilets, but hot showers are just a mile or so down the entry road. I wish radios would be disallowed, and that the lower, covered lighting fixtures that have been installed in parts of the campground would be used throughout, especially as some of the bathroom lights are visually invasive, blinding, and totally unnecessary as campers usually bring flashlights (or those terribly bright headlamps) with them. But when it is dark, one can see the stars, the constellations, meteor showers, all right in the Amphitheater or from the entry green area. I love to walk through Blackwoods at night, without a flashlight, looking at the stars, listening to small animals scampering in the woods and people snoring in their tents, smelling the fresh forest smells, just walking through the beautiful Maine woods in the dark. It is a gift and should be protected and preserved. Perhaps only those who truly want to experience living in nature should be allowed to come.
