The best thing about Blackwoods Campground is its location. There's a short path that takes you to the Loop Road, and you can catch the Island Explorer there (it's an unpublished stop, but according to our driver is official). Or walk across the road and sit on the rocks overlooking the ocean. If you're up for a three-mile walk, you can get to Thunder Hole via the Loop Road, and then take the bus back. And there's an hourly bus to/from Bar Harbor. On the downside, this campground does not cater to tent campers, even though the overwhelming majority of sites are tent-only. There are no on-site showers, you have to wash your dishes at your site and then bring the dishwater to the bathhouse for disposal (at least they provide dedicated disposal facilities now, so you're not dumping the dishwater in the toilets), and the bathhouses lack soap dispensers and hand dryers (what appear to be soap dispensers actually dispense hand sanitizer). For this trip, we were in site A065, in an 18' trailer. This site is long and narrow, but quite spacious. It's at a shallow angle to the narrow access road, so is a little challenging to back into (just a slight turn of the trailer then straighten up, with a large rock on the other side of the road to keep you honest). It's also very shady, and combined with the overcast skies, our solar panels didn't produce much power (on the one sunny day, we moved to the overflow lot to eat lunch and capture power). There are water spigots near the bathhouses, and the dump station has a spigot so you can hook up a sewage tank flush hose (and, surprisingly, there wasn't a line for the dump station at checkout time). We don't have a generator, but usage is limited to 4 hours a day (this is also something that changed since my prior visit; at that time, RVers ran their generators 24x7, making life for the tent camper even more unpleasant).

Beautiful, wooded campsites! But be be aware that there are no showers inside the campground. Our family was not prepared for this and it was very inconvenient. Also, instead of soap there is hand sanitizer in the soap dispensers.
